The mint has changed the B/O date on my two 05 coin and metal sets by one day for the last three weeks. I phoned the mint, and they tell me that my order is still in process. If I check the mint website one day and my order has been cancelled, it will not surprise me. Anyone else waiting on their shipment of these sets? Thanks, Jim
Oh, metal set = Lewis & Clark Journey set. I dunno about the L&C set. The last of my nickel orders came limping in a month ago. More recently, I had ordered one Silver Proof Set and one regular Proof Set within 30 minutes of the Silver Proof Set going on sale. The Mint immediately told me my order was backordered. I checked once a week on the status in the Mint’s web site, and it didn’t change. Finally, one week the status of my order was unknown. I called the Mint and was told the Silver Proof Set was on its way, and the regular Proof Set was still backordered. Two days later I received the Silver Proof Set, and still have not received the regular Proof Set. I haven’t checked the status online lately.
Basically, being in the Mint’s Backorder Purgatory is an unhappy place to be. The expected shipping date keeps changing (usually to a later date), sometimes the order gets “lost” after the Mint stops shipping sets. You never know where you are or when you’ll get out. You’re adrift without a paddle. Panic sets in that the Mint will take your money and run. Your faith in Internet commerce is shaken from the trauma you have endured. I’m running out of conflicting metaphors, but you get the idea.
I think the ANA needs to get involved. They need to draft some sort of complaint letter for numismatists to sign and send to their Congressmen and Senators. By the way; how many of you noticed that the director of the mint has been named to become the new Deputy Undersecretary of State? God help us all.
All I can say is there must be thousands of unhappy customers who place and order, the mint accepts the order, then backorders it ad infinitum. I don't understand why they take an order if they never expect to fill it. The reply about writing your senator may be a good idea. After all it was only an order for two sets. I could understand a little better if it was backordered for 50-100 sets. I know they limited it this year to five sets per order. Jim
Maybe the mint outfoxed themselves with the 5 set limit because they don't understand human behavior. Now, if someone wants 25 sets, they have to find four friends and relatives to order too. So the mint ends up with 5 separate orders to fill instead of one, and the backlog gets worse.
My Mint woooooooes! I have read that a lot of people have had problems with the Mint and their Tenn. shippers but I have never ever had trouble with any of my orders, til about 1 week ago. 1. Ordered 5 Nickle sets and their site shows they were given an order # and were shipped. No charge any where on my card 2. Ordered 5 more Nickle sets, same thing. No sets. 3. Ordered 2 Silver Proof set, 3 proof sets and 3 mint set. Well I got the Proof sets and no record of anything else. So now I have to order again and of course pay more shipping. You gotta love it. Eh
I have had the same luck as many of you with the backordering being increased by one or two days every time I look. However, on a couple of my recent orders, the website for the Mint said that my order was in stock and reserved when I had already received the order. Very uneven results; will be glad to see all of the 2005 orders received.
I feel lucky that I received an e-mail this week that my sets were on the way. Hope to have them early next week
My Mint Proof set arrived Friday. They look great. Now I get to play the game again when I order my Ocean nickels in a month !
When I tried to order the coin & medal sets, I got a message that the website was "under construction", and I ended up calling in to order my five sets. They were backordered, but are supposed to be at my local Post Office now. I'll get them tomorrow. F.Y.I.--Coin & Medal sets contain the two new proof nickels, a proof Sacagawea dollar, and a silver-plated copy of the Lewis & Clark Peace medal
