Nothing new, most of the key dates sold on ebay are counterfeit. Yes, it's disgusting, but until people learn the hard way there's no teaching them. Myself, I would never buy ANY high dollar coin from ebay unless the seller was absolutely to be trusted....and there's not many that can. There's enough places such as shops and shows to find high dollar coins that buying them on ebay is completely unnecessary.
ok i buy and sell on ebay all the time and I had no idea of fakes on VDB "S" penny besides the obvious copy ones. I will read this whole thread in a bit but i had to say i would have been the 1st to accidently buy a fake one of these. that first listing besides the 0 feed back and being in china if it was listed in america w/ a seller w/ a little bit of feedback i would have bid on that exact pictured coin. besides the obvious china location and no feedback what is it about that coin that gives it away that its fake?
After reading the start of this thread, I did check out the coin.(which was obviously fake). I checked out the bid an it was at $408 at the time. I just couldn't let that crap happen. A lot of people are getting ripped off by these Chinese Rip-off artists all the time. So, I contacted the E-Bay Security team and told them what was happening. They wanted to know what the difference was in the mintmarks and how to detect them. I was more than happy to inform them. I may have been motivated by the fact that my site was hacked into last month, but still it is wrong.
