Can someone tell me about this?

    My brother recieved this in 1976 when he re-enlisted in the Navy it is entombed in plastic. Only Navy people who re-enlisted recieved these does anyone know about it and what it's worth.

    No clue what it is or what it is worth, but I really like the eagle side.

    Yes, this is a Bicentennial - Bronze Metal issued by the US Mint, celebrating the Navy's Birthday. I baught mine thru the Mint in 1980 for $21, and when the Mint was at the coin show in February of this year selling them for around $30. So they are still being made. I like mine alot, great detail, but mine is not encased. May be worth more on the secondary market, to the right person.

    This 3" bronze metal is hand made, according to the mint. I do not find anything on their web site, but was told by the Mint representive that they are still available.

    Wow 3 inches.. I had no idea this medal was that large ..that is a couple ounces of copper..cool
