So I've been looking for a type 2 gold dollar for my collection and came across this one on the bay. Question, is it just me, or does this coin look severly bent at 12 oclock on the obverse and 6 oclock on the reverse? I sent that question to the seller and am awaiting a response. The coin seems to be "cheaper" than normal. Did PCGS screw up or am I seeing things?

    thanks,
    John

I think I'm seeing a reflection or shadow of something. Even enlarged I can't see it clearly enough.

Have to agree w/ spock's advice.

Over 1300 sales on E-bay. 100% feedback . PCGS graded . Priced right
And NO I am not the seller

Plus a return policy - so to me the real question is - do you want to take the chance and maybe lose shipping costs? Since it is graded by PCGS I would say that more than likely the coin is not bent.

hopefull y the coin is graded by pcgs the whole slab is never shown together - but yes the other points about the seller are good would still pass the coin IMHO

    Bent ? I doubt it.

It's hard to say from pictures, but that looks more like an artifact of the photography itself - a shadow, slab refraction, something.

There are many fine hairlines on this one. Looks cleaned. No luster. Otherwise not bad; these are notoriously poorly struck.

Seems like a good seller - "no questions asked" return policy for domestic sales.

And I bet the coin will look better in hand than in his image.

thanks for the input. I was suspicious not only because of the "shadow" on the top of the obverse, but also a reciprocal "shadow" on the bottom of the reverse. I suppose it is a coincidence. Anyways, aside from that , the coin looks great to me. I disagree with 900fine, in that I believe it actually has really good luster. I meant no disrespect to the seller...but PCGS as well as any other grading company can make mistakes. They have slabbed cleaned, corroded, scratched etc. coins before, so I think it's entirely possible that they could accidentally slab a slightly bent coin. The price seems more than fair, which sometimes makes me a little suspicious.

Well, he did email me back assuring me the coin is not bent. It looks like you'all are right then.

I'm considering it if it stays this low, though his BIN price is not bad at all.
