This Italian one (ha, I have that too! ) was designed by Maria Carmela Colaneri; she also designed the 2005 (Constitutional Treaty) and 2006 (Torino Olympics) €2 pieces. Very interesting, but also very "full" - which in my opinion is a stark contrast to the almost empty ring. Seems to be fashionable these days to put the Stars of Europe, and only the stars, on the ring ... By the way, others mention her "horror vacui" too: "Le sue monete si distinguono dalle altre per il fatto che a lei piace mettere in moneta il maggior numero possibile di elementi, anche se talvolta le capita di esagerare." http://www.mebnet.helloweb.eu/maria_carmela_colaneri.htm Hehe. Now the German State Twoers are certainly different in that each state is to be represented by one building. So MCC's method of "putting the maximum number of elements possible on the coin" (see above) would be difficult here anyway. But there still are differences - the 2007 piece (MV) is fairly full while last year's coin (HH) had a huge blank area. The one that comes next month will be "middle of the road" so to say. Right. Sixteen euro-stickman pieces. (Or twenty if you want all mint marks.) I suffer, I suffer ... Christian
I got this today in the post...all the way from the dutch mint. Surprisingly poorly packaged...the original coin flip it was in was for a coin measuring at least 50mm id say. I also expected it to be part of some display pack as well giving details on the coin. But never mind, a great designs...and if the pounds wasnt so bad against the euro id have got it in proof...but at he moment that would have cost £30. Commemorating the same anniversary the italian mint has produced this baby... I will however be looking for this in proof. There is a surprisingly low ammount of euros on UK ebay and every single one I have purchased has come from over seas.
I get most of mine from abroad as well there dont seem to be many euro sellers here in the UK. Have to ask though why did you get it from the Duch mint? was it cheaper than on ebay. For the most part I do like the design of the Finnish 2 euros :smile
Like I said, I thought that from the dutch mint that it would be in a folder or something And on ebay I just imagined them to be all pulled from circulation. I didn't know the latter would be true for the former. No proof versions on either coin on ebay from any country however.
Hehe, I bought the British special 2009 coins (Kew, Darwin, Burns, Henry VIII) the other day. Had to trash quite a lot of "packaging" until I finally had the coins. So yes, I see your POV but over here some €2 commems (BU/unc version) come in folders or coin cards while others do not. Also, when the Dutch Mint sells coins from other euro countries, it basically acts as a coin dealer, not as an issuer. So you can expect to get from them what you would also get from a store ... The proof version of the Finnish "Human Rights" coin does come in a box, with some kind of certificate from the Finnish Mint. This dealer in Germany for example charges €16.50 for the proof piece: http://www.honscha.de/bilder/2fi082.jpg Postage to the UK may be quite a lot though. If you want details about your coin, you can save or print this page from the Official EU Journal: http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=OJ:C:2008:246:0009:0009:EN:PDF As for the Italian €2 coins, I don't think they are available as proof pieces. Would have to check though. (Edit: They are not.) Christian
It's a shame that that italian euro cannot be found in proof, it would have been great. Not even as part of the proof mint set it seems. This proof set costs £125 lol
LOL indeed. The Italian mint charges €43 for the FDC set (BU - 20,000 sets), and €85 for the proof set (5,000 sets): http://www.zecca.ipzs.it/cgi-free/d...artic?cod_tipol=1&cod_colle=000&cod_artic=225 The latter - listed but not depicted at the IPZS site - is sold out though, so you would have to buy it elsewhere. For example, the dealer in Germany that I mentioned before charges €95 (about £80-85): http://www.emuenzen.de/verkauf/kat88land316.html Scroll down to the bottom to view the proof set (I just post the link as an example - if a moderator thinks this is too "promotional", feel free to remove the URL.) In my opinion those sets are nice but too costly, even at "only" €85 or €95. Now why the Italian €2 commems cannot be had in proof - good question ... Christian
Have just added a host of Finnish euros to the collection 2 Euros Cloudberries and cloudberry flowers Designed by Raimo Heino Map of EU M mint mark 1 Euro Two flying swans Designed by the artist Pertti Maekinen Map of EU M mint mark new mint mark ?
Yup. Finland used to have the "M" until 2006; that was the sign of the mint director Raimo Makkonen. Since 2007 it has been the mint logo (this one http://www.mint.fi/gifs_rahapaja/logo.gif without the text) and the country code "FI" instead. Christian
At least Finland modified both sides in the same year. In Belgium, for the 10 cent and above coins, you have: (a) old common side, old national side - until 2006, (b) new common side, old national side - in 2007, (c) new common side, "medium" national side - in 2008, (d) new common side, new national side - in 2009. Guess who will not get all four varieties. Christian
I think that makes two of us Christian and I was just getting confused by the anount of US cents to be issued this year LOL

The euro-stickman pieces are not exactly highlights in the history of coin design ... But yeah, I "had" to get them all too. This year there won't be such a common series, but in a few days the first 2010 commem (from LU) will be issued, to be followed by the Bremen piece (DE, German States series). Should keep you busy.
