Would you all rather spend the money on a proof coin from the mint or pay for say an NGC PF70 coin? I know this may seem like an odd question but I have noticed that just having the coin graded adds a large amount to the coin. I personally like to have the original case and the coin together, but just having someone say it’s perfect adds so much money to it. I started off buying the NGC graded coins but found the coins bought in the original mint packaging to appear to look the same but for a fraction of the cost. Am I the only one?
Buy the coin, not the slab. If you are happy with the coins from the Mint why would you pay extra for one in a slab - especially if you cannot tell the difference between the two? In the end you should buy whichever coin pleases you.
I think too many new issue coins such as ASE's and Comemmoratives have too many MS-70s. I like my ASE's in albums. I only have one comemmorative and I like it in the original mint packaging. I may expand on these comemmoratives later, but I want the coin, not the slab. I think some of these 70's are not going to be worth the price people paid as time goes along.
I would rather have a slabbed "perfect" coin at an unslabbed price or have an unslabbed coin that I saw as perfect. Also, you can buy the mint packaging on ebay if you wish to crack the coin out of a holder.
If I had to choose from the mint but If I had to choose from the mint but I don't buy anything modern anymore unless it's at face value or a slight premium plus be assured the bottom will fall out of these high graded slabbed coins, buyer beware!
I would rather the coin be in the original packaging. I only buy the designs from the mint I really like and am happy with the condition they come in.
