Mint officials withdrew the 2010 Lincoln cent reverse design recommended by the Commission of Fine Arts after learning the sheaf of wheat design resembles that on coinage of Weimar Germany

I'm sure the real reason is too many CT members were not happy with it, nice to see we are getting the clout we deserve.

Maybe they should change the entire series? I understand Lincoln has a new protege. Maybe the reverse we could put on a 2009 Dodge Charger.

I think we should take Washington off the quarter and put him on the Cent, Then put Jefferson on the quarter and put Roosevelt on the Nickel, that leaves the dime for Reagan. Ha, that would drive the Clerks at Walmarts crazy wouldn't it.

You know, I thought that design looked kind of familiar. Now I know why.

 

My favorite comment, from someone here at CT, was that the design looked like the wrong end of a turkey!

 

Maybe I'm crazy, but after 100 years, I wouldn't mind a different obverse. Abe in on the $5 bill, why not go with another prominent president or person? Like Clinton...


OK, the Bill crack was just a joke, but seriously, I bran new obverse would be refreshing to me....

I don't know if you or I have a minority view -- but as for me: the Lincoln obverse is my favorite among current circulating coins. I find the Roosevelt boring, and I'm tired of the Wash-Quarter. Jeff nickel is OK.

But, perhaps I'm just sentimental, as the cent is where I first started collecting many many years ago.

 

Oh, please don't mess with it. I am already way past tired of hearing about "Eisenhower dimes" and other such nonsense. Any further changes would result in utter mayhem.

Although, I personally would like to see circulating coins return to more classic designs, such as the various portrayals of Liberty. Perhaps the fact that she is no longer pictured on circulating coins is a commentary on our society.

My sentiments exactly. Presidents on money in all forms outlasted it's novelty about 100 years ago. Lets put something beautiful on money like we once did.

Another vote for Miss Liberty; can't beat her! I've seen three or four of the president dollars and cringe thinking they're going to issue another 40 or so more.

The Mint needs classically-trained artists; people experienced with the great Beaux Arts movement is the right way to go. No more computer graphics people.

 

President Lincoln is not going to leave the cent, no doubt about that. I just want them to pick a reverse that is a worthy and a little classical at the same time. There have been many threads here on removing dead presidents from coins. I thought I read somewhere earlier this year this commission was going to review all coins and make recommendations.

 

A famous man once said "Give me Liberty, or give me death" - or an incuse indian head........something. I think 100 years is a long enough reign for the first Presidential portrait on a regular circulating coin issued by the US Mint.
