    Hiya all,

Going to a coin show on Friday. Any ideas on what to keep a look out for without spending an arm and a leg. Most likely only spending about $100-200. Not looking for any MS quality cause I know those can get pricey. If you know of any that aren't please let me know. I'm just looking for XF or AU, unless something catchs my eye. I'm going to try any venture out of lincoln (which I've been collecting for about 6 years now) I have a few mercury dimes but thats about it. Any suggestions would be great.

If you like mercury dimes I would go with a 1921 P or D for what you are willing to pay...other than that I would keep a eye out for something you like...

As it has been said...you may find a Proof mercury dimes for $150 or about that...also some of the older Proof coins are nice and low priced.

With $200 you could buy a handful of Mercury dimes graded MS65 or better by NGC or PCGS. Sure there are dates that cost more than that for each coin. But there are a lot of dates in MS65 or better that sell for $50 or less.

My opinion is totally non-expert but I'm inclined to think Speedy is on the right track. If you look in the Redbook, there are a variety of proof coins from the 20th century that can be obtained in pretty high grades for what you plan to spend. They aren't popular, but they are in a high state of preservation, some are low mintage, and they are affordable.

I'd go for problem-free key or semi-key dates in any series in your price range as these are always in demand and are usually the first to rise.

    Good Luck.

I'm heading to the Mid-America Coin Expo outside of Chicago on Friday. I need to collect my thoughts on what I want to get there... I've been so busy with work that I haven't had much time to think about coins.

I've purchased and downloaded this week's Greysheet along with the June supplement, and will have my inventory loaded on my Pocket PC, so I think I should be fairly prepared aside from not having much of a clue of what I'm looking for. ;)

Ideally, I'd like to pick up some uncirculated Mercury dimes from the early 30s and 20s and possibly a few capped bust half dimes.

Whatever I end up getting, I know I'm looking forward to the show.

    Coin expo in Rosemont IL.?

Hehehe we might bump into each other. Thats the same one I'm going to. FYI, Rosemont is very close to Chicago.

    See ya there,

    Ron

PS- look for the guy in sweats and a T-shirt, going there straight after work. Most likely around 2'ish.

Just got back from the show...

    Hiya gang,

Just got back. Felt kinda outta place there but managed. ALOT of slab dealers. Had some luck digging through the few folders I could find. Here's what I bought today.... 1917p AU, 1918s XF, 1918d XF, 1918p XF, 1926s XF, 1939s MS65, 1938p MS64.. all lincoln wheats. For $50, I think I did well. Also, picked up a MAX stapler for $24. Overall, had a great time. With what I spent think it was well worth the trip. Had my eyes on a 1921p merc in Good for $60, but walked by it...... bad move on my part :(
