Check this out! The pictures just don't capture the beauty of this coin, but I just found it in a roll! I couldn't believe my eyes when I first saw it, but it is high MS IMO. Any grade opinions appreciated. I think it could go 66.

    Wow, what a beauty!

Because of the dot on his temple, and the stained field (running from 11 o'clock to 7 o'clock) and the small dings on the edge and rim, and the ever so slight wear on the reverse portrait, I would say MS63-64.

Just curious, what do you see on the reverse that concludes wear, even the slightest bit. I personaly don't think the pictures are good enough to tell about wear(but I think it is UNC). Besides even if there was wear it would not even possibly grade MS, but AU.

IMO I think 64 at most 65, because of the spot on the obverse. Nice circulation find:)

Agreed, I don't see any wear on the reverse...but I'm nowhere near an expert on this type. But, if there is ANY wear...that automatically drops the coin into the AU band. This is why AU58 coins can often look nicer than a low grade MS.

I think a weak strike at the top of the pillars is being confused for wear, and I also think this is perfectly acceptable, given the pictures.

The coin is probably MS, but impossible to tell for certain given the pics.

    Nice coin.

Yes, borgovan is right, and I misspoke, the top of the pillars is to what I was referring; and am sure it is more of a weak strike than wear. But I do stand by the grade I gave it...but I am by no stretch of the imagination an expert...and my grade is just my opinion. :)

That's OK, but one thing you have to remember (with any coin)...is if you see wear that automatically puts it in the AU category or lower. The definition of an MS coin is the absence of wear. So, even the smallest amount of wear knocks the coin down to a AU grade. Often, you will see coins graded AU58 look a lot better than an MS60 because the MS60 has no wear but can have a bunch of dings and nicks. The AU58 will be super clean and have the slightest rub on a high point. The MS60 is a higher grade coin but the AU58 looks a lot better and is cheaper.

I'm not an expert at all with Jefferson's (I don't know if it is a weak strike or has wear...I can't tell from the pics), but this is true for all coins.

First very nice nickel for finding in a roll. Very nice indeed. To me it might be MS, but not 64 just too many tick marks. But still I would love to find one that looks like that.
