Hi all. I was wondering what would be the best way to sell two incomplete sets I was working on. One was Lincoln Cents, and the other was Washington Quarters. All no problem coins, F/VF starting dates to UNC for later dates. The Washington's are about 300 bid, no 32d/32s, the Lincoln's about 1700 bid, on svdb. If it were a complete set I'd take it to my regular dealer, But I was wondering if ebay would be better in this kind of situation. Both sets are in Intercept holders, None slabbed. In case anyone was curious, I have found myself focusing much more on type coins lately. TYIA -- dw
The Lincoln's may bring fair money but the Washington's will not The Lincoln's may bring fair money but the Washington's will not without those keys. In that grade about the most you will get out of the Washintons is silver value. On the Lincoln's if you have S-VDB or some of the other top coins, 14-D, 22-NO "D", 31-S you'd be better off just selling those coins because most people are going to price the set according to those few coins. So why not sell just those and keep the rest - in most cases you will be giving them away selling the entire set.
I think it's important to inquire what you mean about "incomplete Lincoln." I assume when you say "on SVDB" you mean "no SVDB." So, minus that coin...what other keys do you have. Did the set you are building include the 1922 No D or the 1955 DDO? Are there proofs in the set? What are the specific grades of the other key and semi-key coins you have (1909-S, 1911-S, 1914-D, 1924-D, 1931-S) as well as the 1922 No D and 1955 DDO if there?
I feel it is better to sell the coin as singles. If it were a full set and you took it to the dealer he would make a price on the valuable ones and the rest he would lump off. What is the first thing he would do with your collection? Sell them off individually! Cut out the middle man and pocket the difference.
