If you've read any of my posts over the past couple weeks, you'll know that I inherited my father's collection and am just getting back into coin collecting.

In looking at what my dad had inventoried, when I got the collection 3 dansco albums are missing. My step mom just informed me that she has looked everywhere for them, and they are gone....

What is missing is Walking Liberty halfs, with only 3 holes in the album, and Liberty head halves 90% filled and liberty head quarters, 90% filled. I'm just sick. They could have been stolen, of course, but I can't wait to get there and tear his house apart (he was known to hide things). He lived in another state and I can't get there until July. The only person that could have stolen them would be the Hospice nurses.

Anyway, my optimism for finding these has taken a major hit, and it really bums me out. What a shame for him to have collected them all his life (he did most of it through circulation) and to have them gone now.

I can't wait for July, as if he hid them, I will certainly find them...

Sorry, I was feeling sad that step mom had given up and had to share it with people who would understand my obsession....

Good luck in July, I'm sure you'll find them after raiding the house!

Don't panic, they will probably turn up. My experience with inheritances is they tend to be long frustrating processes because nothing is where it should be. I'm sure they are still there. :)

stay calm, and just be happy that you received the collection that you did get.

Heck you could have been given what I got:

It helps to have someone to rant to so feel free to do it anytime it's needed and I hope they turn up! :thumb:

I feel your pain. In the same sitation, I would feel exactly as you do. I'm putting my bet on your finding the coins when you go looking in July.

Hopefully they are still there somewhere. I'd hate to think of someone just taking them and spending them.

    Hi Bob

Well, all I can say is you should be happy you have what you have. My collection is all in a fireproof safe that only one person knows the location of (other than me of course). I also have some albums that can't fit in the safe, so I can see how it can happen. My advice is not to worry, and don't sell anything. If you are going to sell, let me know. I have enough already, but I might buy more.

    Good luck!!!

Good Luck finding them. I remember when my grandparents passed my folks practically had to tear apart the house to find my grandfather's collection as he was a young man during the depression and they felt they had to hide everything.

There is one piece of good news, though his Liberty Head Quarter album is missing, he didn't put his 1896 S in it, so I have that (in my safety deposit box). :)

However, I'm sick about those walking halfs. Thanks for letting me rant. In July, I'm gonna find them, I'm gonna find them, I'm gonna find them....

I hope the missing albums show up.

By "Liberty Head" do you mean Barber coins?

Like you, perhaps he had placed the collection in a safety deposit box and his bank. I hope you do locate them.

Yes, Barber is the more common name, I guess.

Thanks. My dad couldn't get out of the house for the last few months, so we know they are not in a safety deposit box. they are either in his house, which has been thoroghly searched by my Step Mom (at least that is what she tells me), or they have been stolen.
