I was just on the Royal mint of Canada and came across a set of silver playing cards with added color and gold plating around the rim. They weigh 1oz .925 sterling silver and come in 10 of spades, jack of hearts, queen of spades and king of hearts in a nice leather like box that holds all four. www.mint.ca They also made a 100Kg gold coin with a million dollar denomination the largest coin ever minted. 3200 ounces .of .9999 pure gold They have actually sold a couple, No price was given. The reason I posted on this forum was that I've never bought a foreign coin before. Everything I have is American. But I have been going thru several national mints and found out they have many quality coins. My question was regarding the sterling silver card set and what was your opinion of the set. Thanks Randy
Here is a nice little article on the Canadian playing card money http://www.micheloud.com/FXM/MH/canada.htm I did not know that they did a silver representation of these historical pieces but they look rather nice out of my price range though LOL
Ive seen them, I am very much on the fence if i like/want them however. They are very inventive, but the RCM has lately been really stepping outside the box and releasing tons of untraditional coins, which include strange shaped ones like the one you are interested in. Are you intending in getting all 4 of them? I seem to recall there is a case that can contain all 4 of them. One thing I do like however, is the colouring..they are very vibrant.
They are 90 Canadian and 70 US.And they do come in a box of 4 you get the king of hearts in a couple of months
