This may sound ridiculus but I just viewed a massive estate auction on ebay htta had coins, paintings, stamps, and paper money. One of those items that caught my eye was a 1K dollar bill. How rare a find are these?

They probably are not considered rare but they have been in high demand for the last several years. $1000 notes without ANY problems can bring $1300 to $2000 quite easily. This may be one of those salted estate finds with the note having been added for effect. Chances are it does have problems that have been unmentioned.

My local coin shop owner recently had a $500 bill for sale. Wasn't in the best shape but was interesting to see. It be nice to add to my collection but I'll have to save up the money first.

You won't find a note without ANY problems for $1,300 (just to clarify the pricing in this post). That low range will get you something pretty worn and/or with pinholes, taped tears, folds, etc. Depending on one defines "problems" -you could get a decent looking note for $1,850-$2,200 -but it won't be CU66 and problem free.

Not to discourage you but from what I've read of other peoples experiences with these types of auctions is that your chances of recieving exactly whats stated and the condition its said to be in is pretty slim. So what dollarcrazy said earlier is most likely correct. This note was probably placed there to attract higher bidding for that and other items as well. These type of Ebay auctions are bad news....IMO

The real deals are at actual, physical, B&M, estate auction houses that do not specialize in coins/paper money. You may find borderline results at auction houses that have "Antique" auctions, but the main theme is on antiques, not currency.

They are all over the country, and should have a viewing time where you can inspect everything up front and decide if it's even worth staying for the auction.
