I have never purchased coins from the US Mint before. I have a very basic question.

I was looking at the set of 2009 U.S. territories quarters here:
    http://catalog.usmint.gov/webapp/wc...ctId=14696&langId=-1&parent_category_rn=36738

Supposedly, I can place my order right away. However, from what I know, all the quarters have not been released yet. I was just wondering if I can still get the entire set in 1 to 2 weeks, as they mention, or is that going to happen only after all the quarters are released?

The reason I ask this is because I'll be moving away from the US in 2-3 months, and I want to be sure that I receive my coins before then.

    Any help is appreciated.

You might want to call the mint and ask them. The quarter sets are probably in stock & might ship quickly(Even my quickly filled orders seem to take a couple weeks though). Best to ask the mint.

These are the proof territorial quarters. The proofs have been released and you will probably get the set within a month or so.

The BU version of the quarters have not all been released yet.

I was at the mint in philly yesterday and they had silver and clad proof sets in stock. Picked up one silver set just to buy something from my trip.

I have ordered both the clad and silver proof sets. I ordered fairly close to when they initially came out. Each set took about 10 to 12 days to arrive. Quite beautiful I think.

Thanks ya'll for the input. I'll be calling the mint first thing tomorrow morning to make sure they have the set available and order it right away.

I'm really looking forward to my first mint set!!

If the shipping from the mint does not work out, may be I should request you to grab a set for me and ship it to me. I can PayPal the money to you or something! But anyway, still keeping my fingers crossed about the mint.

By the way, the set that I've linked in my first post is not silver. Still, is it good enough? Or should I go for the silver one? The silver is double the price and I'm sort of reluctant to spend that much! Any advise?

Good enough for what? Are the clads attactive? Yes IMO, but personally if I had to chose between the two I would buy the silver set if I could afford it. Which to buy depends I guess on what you want to do with them and affordabilty. Yes they are more expensive, but they are a silver content coin. Quite affordable way to pick-up six silver coins that IMO are quite beautiful.

Thanks for your response, Mr.CoinLover. By "good enough" I guess I meant collectibility (for the lack of a better word!). As you said, the silver ones are definitely more attractive, and I would very much like to buy them. It's not that I cannot afford them...it's just that being new to the hobby, I haven't really "invested" in coins yet...most of my stuff is circulated coins. But I guess this could be a place to start....thinking about it, I might actually go for the silver.

Just out of curiosity, how much silver do they contain?

Sorry for the basic questions...and I do appreciate your help.

That is okay, glad to help if I can. They are 90% silver. I don't know how good an investment they will be. I think in a year or so you would have no problem getting back what you paid for them. I looked at a coin site (non ebay) and they are selling at $32.95 plus s/h right now. I think the mintage of the proof and silver proof sets for '09 will be high this year because of the cents people will be wanting. Disregarding all the speculation and to me it just boils down to they are very attractive and unique to anything the mint has done before.

If I may ask one more question, do you have any idea about the melt value of the silver set?

    Just curious!

    Sholom retired...

As of 1:30pm yesterday, the melt value of a silver quarter from 1932-64 (I presume these are the same weight & composition) is $2.30 per quarter.

If you go to your search engine and type in coin calculator several will be listed. Hope that helps.

Thank you all for your inputs. I called the Mint. They said that the proof sets are available to ship right away and I should receive one in at most 2.5 weeks. I ended up buying the non-silver set for now. Might go for the silver at a later stage.
