Yes, to almost all of them. Taking them one by one: Pres dollars - if you look at the mintages, you can see that just about every dollar has less mintage than the one before, with WH Harrison the first one ever below 100m. Given the declining interest, and the recession, I'd bet that the trend will continue and mintages will get lower and lower (with Lincoln, towards the end of 2010 being a probably exception) Quarters - in the last three years, mintages of each of the state quarters totalled between 500m and 600m. (with a few at 400m and one at 641m). Again: between declining interest (particulary now that the 50 states are all done) and the recession, mintages are very low for DC (172m) and PR (139m). Further, the mint needs to make six quarters this year, instead of five (as they did in the previous 10 years) Nickels and Dimes - as we've just read, the mint has stopped producing those. Must be on account of the recession. Cents - I have no knowlege, but the obvious question anyone would ask is: why wouldn't cents follow the same pattern as every other 2009 coin in this list? First off, they have to make four different cents instead of one. Secondly, again because of the recession, there' not much public demand for more coins (which is why banks aren't ordering them). And, finally, the mintage for the first Lincoln cent (635m). Compare that to prior years where production has ranged from 5.4 billion (2008) to over 14B (2000), and you can see it's much less than 1/4th of a yearly production. So, it's hard to see the other Lincoln cents in 2009 being much more that the first one. But, hey, I'm just guessing.
Also, with the focus on the presidential golden dollar, might the 2009 and beyond Sacagawea be overlooked?
I have seen two DC quarters in circulation. that is all that I've seen from any coin from 2009. No pennies, nickels dimes halves or dollars. Nada. I've seen more Susies than presidentials.
That's a good point. The designs on the reverse for 2009-2012 on the Sac dollar will be unique. I know next-to-nothing about "type" collectors -- so I have a question about that: does a type collector need to get each of the 2009-2012 Sac dollars for a complete collection?
No sure what you mean by "type collector," but yes, you will need all of these Sacs if you want a complete collection. As you say, the reverse will be different and you have the two mints....
Initially the price will be high for these coins when they finally begin to become obtainable but the price will drop off as more are horded in pristine conditions because people will have realized the shortage resulting in a coin that will never have a significant numismatic premium in any grade other than the absolute highest.
