Ok, I would like to hear what other people think. Does cleaning your coin decrease it's value? I have always wondered this. Thanks all for educating me..lol
Hi, ya know I think everyone may be sick of discussing this issue..I would probably search the forums..its probably the most discussed topic..that and PVC.. In a nut shell...cleaning does lower the value of coins...the only coin that should be cleaned are the ones where the value is so low..you dont care about it but still want to see all the features none the less. Also coins that are only worth face value or bullion value are open game as well.
As a rule the answer is generally yes, cleaning does decrease the value of coins. The exception to that is excavated coins. All of my copper and bronze coins that are dug from the earth are carefully bathed in a hot hydrogen peroxide solution. This is necessary to remove harmful minerals that would otherwise destroy the coin. Any rare coin (if it can be identified) is not cleaned at all by me. I leave that up to the professionals!
If you would like to visit the older threads on cleaning, the search button on the menu bar is very handy. the terms : cleaning, dipping, acetone, toning all will bring a lot to read. Don't make any decision until you read a few. Jim
