Hello All: I had to clean out my Dad's house last week and I came across the following coins in his closet. I know nothing about coins (and very little about photography as you can tell from the pics.) I hope you can shed some light on the value of these coins. I am assuming they have little value but I thought I should inquire. I am posting the same message in five parts since I am limited to 5 pics per post. I have taken sequential pics of the front and back of each coin. As you can see there are 4 peace dollars, 3 of which are 1922, satin finish low relief?, and the fourth is 1925 matte finish low relief?. There are two Morgan dollars, 1886 and 1921. One mercury dime, 1934-D, having a rim defect. One coin from 1942 Nazi Germany. One gold? coin that I believe is Hungarian. Would appreciate any information that you could provide on value. Sincerely, Dan

What does this coin read on the obverse and reverse? I could tell you right away if its Hungarian.

It looks like you have an 1899 Austrian gold ducat.

On the obverse is the following: FRANC IOS I.D.G. AVSTRIAE IMPERATOR

On the revervse is the following: LOD ILL REX A.A. 1899 HVNGAR BOHEM GAL

The inscription on the obverse is abbreviated Latin which means "Franz Joseph the First, By the Grace of God, Emperor of Austria"

I was going to say it doesn't look like Hungarian to me :)

Well, technically you could say it is Hungarian, I guess, since the coin was issued by the Austro-Hungarian Empire, but this particular coin is usually listed as Austrian. The similar Hungarian coins of the period (like the 10 korona) show the same emperor standing, with the inscription in Hungarian instead of Latin.

I believe the (A) denotes the Vienna mint. The 1 Ducat is with the head facing right and is
    .986 gold KM#2267....... nice find.
