Last week I found a coin I needed to complete my registry set on NGC, on the cheap, a 1943/2P PCGS64 war nickel (OGH), nothing great but enough for me to be close to my top 25 goal. I added it to my watch list, checked it last Thursday before I left work, same as when I added it almost a week before, one bidder for $400 (Numismedia $575), the auction closed Saturday afternoon. I checked it again Thursday after I got home from work. It was off my watch list, didn't show up in ongoing or completed auctions, couldn't find it at all. Checked again today, and now I see it again, with a starting bid of $400. What could have happened? I thought an auction couldn't be pulled if it had one bid? Should I even attempt to bid on this coin? Thanks, Fred
There could have been a mistake in the listing and the seller closed it early. The opened the auction again. I am not sure if those auctions show up in the completed listings or not. And I do not know what these run, but I recommend you check heritage for completed auctions - I do not use numismedia prices. Also without knowing the seller I can not comment.
I will give you a clue. The auction can be pulled after it has been bid on (as many bids as you would like to see), closed, and won. I have done it to more than one and had it done to me (i.e., won and then had the auction pulled).
Mark, it the seller had pulled his own auction, it will still show up, but state that it was closed early. The only way you can no longer find it is when eBay pulls it.

Why Rotate the reverse picture on the coin? He show the front with a full view of the slab but on the reverse he only show the coin rotated 30 degrees. Somthing is up I can't put my finger on it but to not state that it is slabbed and graded something is up. Ice
I start to get a bit nrevous when weird things happen with an auction. It is the same listing, description and pictures as the last one that got pulled, and the price is the same. I think I may pass and wait for a different but similar coin. There are two others on ebay both are MS66 and one is FS, but both are double my budget.
I once saw a very popular mint set appear on the Bay with a low, low starting bid, suddenly disappear and then reappear a day later under a different user account with a Buy It Now price of $1500. Guaranteed, the original seller was made an offer (probably $1000) and they took it and ended the auction early.
It sounds to me like a violation of the Coin Selling Policy, in that the seller didn't properly list the coin or didn't have proper pictures of the coin and slab, both front and back, and someone turned him in and Ebay yanked the auction. If the seller had ended the auction early, it would still be on your watched list but in the ended portion, which it was not there (I assume that since you didn't say it was) so the only way an auction disappears is for Ebay to pull it, then all traces of it disappear. :vanish: Ribbit
