Hello all; this penny stood out to me at a coin show a few years back, where I paid $95 for it. To me, there appear to be some traces of mint luster in the low points of the coin (under Lincoln, near the tips of the wheat stalks, etc.). Note that the holder is a little dusty. On the obverse, the 'I' in "Liberty" looks like it was partially filled in when the coin was struck. On the reverse, there are two dings on the rim around 11:00, and there are some black smudges. The wheat stalks look very full to me. I know the pictures aren't the greatest, but can anyone tell me what grade they'd give this coin and what value they might put on it?
It is pretty hard to see with the holder still there, but I am pretty sure I am seeing wear. AU-50/53. Nice coin.
At the best it looks AU50 in my opinion with the problem of looking through the holder. Sometimes the mylar "sticks" to the coin and throws it off. I would say it was between a EF45 and AU 50. My reason is that there appears to be some wear on the lower jaw and lapel (EF) as well. Jim
I would say you were right in line with the EF-45 to AU-50. It was hard for me to see because it comes up so dark but I took the liberty of resizing it and brightening it up a bit on my computer to see some detail. Nice hair detail. It looks like some of the back of the ear is blending into the hair line. Some wear on the jaw line. I'm not sure if there are 2-3 small nicks on the right field or dust on the lens. Overall, Definately a nice coin. One I wouldn't mind having in my collection. I think $95.00 was a real bargain. Rock
