Do people collect old coin auction catalogs?

Yes! Some of the 1980s Bowers and Merena's catalogs, such as the Eliasberg collection, the Norweb collection or the King of Siam catalog are the coin collector's equivalent of the Marilyn Monroe Playboy issue. :p IMHO of course. Stacks have improved, but most of their catalogs are no where close.

True. I wonder what kind of prices these go for. Some of the images were great and I'm thinking they were still using film.

I have a fair sized collection of older catalogs, mostly 1975-date. A few back in to the 50s and earlier (my earliest is 1926). Some are inexpensive, but the most expensive I've purchased cost me $50. HTH.

Oh yes - they are a primary source of coin information and pedigree information. See the thread on the 1794 Dollar in the TOTW hall of fame.

The Chapman brothers' auction of the F. R. Alvord collection. It's actually a later reprint, not an original.

    The originals are expensive.

I really like auction catalogs. If you liked half cents I could recommend a number of absolutely fantastic references. Large cents to a lesser degree.
