That design is what I call 'butt ugly'. YUCK! My eye was drawn to the '1¢'. To my knowledge the US Mint has always spelled out CENT or CENTS or used the abbreviation 'C' and has never used the cent symbol (¢). Before the Sac Dollar the Mint had never used the dollar sign ($) on a circulating coin. Excuse me. I think I'm gonna be sick.
Still liked the idea of symbolizing the unity of the country. Would have been a good opportunity to use the We Are One line from the Fugio's but there I go being logical. I guess faced with the choice of this design or no cent at all, I'd have to take this design.
Meh. We'll get used to it. Nearly every design they've ever come out with has been criticized by the public for one reason or another. Even in the old days. The Barber design isn't a gem but I've bought them. People collect them. Life goes on. But I agree. I think us average Joes could have put our heads together and came up with something a little more inspiring. Maybe they think they're appeasing the numismatic community just for putting wheat on it in any form??
Well for all the bashing going on...I actually like the fundamentals here the best of the designs. 1. Bringing back the wheat..I think most are in favor of that idea - hail the original. 2. Unity - something held together Issues - some have already been addressed: 1. the funky 1 with "old west" cents sign - already returned to "One Cent" 2. "one nation" in writing too "commemorative" and obvious - already cut 3. the way the wheat is done - too busy and cartoony - the orig wheats had long heads and short cut stalks, these stalks are way too long. 4. 13 wheats - I know The 13 colonies thing, but the reality is Lincoln held 2 countries (North/South) together not the 13 colonies. - if they lose the 13 ears and come back to 2 tied together this design could be great Much more potential than a bird or flag. Thems be my 2 cents
Not only did it refer to the Sac dollar, it says the commission met on 'April 28'. Isn't today only the 24th? Am I misreading that? Sorry if I am!! If so, how accurate is that article?
I would like the Enterprise (NCC1701) on a peace sign background with 'Live Long and Prosper" EDIT- with original wheat ears on the sides EDIT- also with VDB on the bottom
This is what we will be stuck with for the next fifty years or however long they continue the penny. I like what it represents, I like everything else okay on the reverse, the problem is the wheat. To me it is too out of proportion, too much shaft or something. It just doesn't look like wheat to me, I knew they would blow it. Such a shame. I do realize many may like it, but ................
Some small tweaks by an average Joe and I see improvement already....although going old school with the 2 wheats still would have been better....
didnt i tell u to leave ur loupe at home when u look at the new coins. you will give us all a heart attack. thats a tree cent
Spock it also looks like the butt end of a thanksgiving turkey. I can't wait to see the toning pattern this reverse comes up with as it ages. Jim P.s. Your package arrived! Great looking, but I expected some corroded ones to try biox on. The supplier was nice and is replacing my order.
ill send u some corroded ones too but al3 does nto corrode ill send u a hard to get coin and ill mark it such so u know its not scrap its pure nickel. those coins in the package are for ur collection not experimentation Please see did u get package number 2 it has some cool stuff
I don't care for the new design, but to be honest, using an old design already used for 50+ years would have been just as bad. Creative and original seems to be asking for way too much I guess. Guy~
This is great. I love to read posts by all of the different design haters. It adds some entertainment value to the forum. No matter what the design ..some blowhard has to pipe up and hate all over it...never fails, but reading how worked up some of these folks get is just hilarious. Thank god we have the national park quarters, native american sacs and pres dollars for all the haters out there...now add the cent to the list. Yippeeee...there are even those that hate the 4 designs on the Lincon cent this year ...lol. It just goes to show that you can't please everyone, there is always one in every crowd but on CT ..there are hundreds lined up to bash the artists who design our coinage...ROFLMFAO. This is some great free entertainment....go on ...hate some more ...please.
