I think I'm going to put together a set of my favorite coin from each denomination (excluding dollar) in a capital holder. So this is what I am thinking. half: 1962 proof quarter: no idea, all my nice ones are later dates and not impressive dime: 1941-S merc in my avatar nickel: not sure yet. I would do my BU 1937, but I need it for my type set penny:goofer:: probably my new unc 1909 vdb (will post pics later) So my question to you: if you were to make one of these, what coins of yours would be in it?
My would be bust coinage from the early 1800's. The problem is I do not think I have a complete set of coinage available for any of the years. Plus - I don't think they have a capital holder for that.
OH - Okay. I don't know why I was thinking date set. I really like all the early bust coinage. I wonder if they have a capital holder for something like a bust type set - I have to go google it now. I like the idea of having your favorites designs together for someone to see.
Sort of why I like Whitman Albums. I can take a blank cover, add blank pages for different denominations, lable them as or whatever I like. I've made several Albums of what I wanted. For example I made a Dime Album starting with liberty Heads, Mercury and Roosevelt Dimes all in one Album. Left out all the error and proof coins of course. Made an all Proof Album, Multi type of Nickel Album, All Lincoln Cents from 09 to present without errors or proofs and many others. Your idea is interesting also. My problem with using Whitman for your idea is a complete page would be in the Album for each denomination. However, a set as you mentioned would be rather on the small side so possibly a page of favorites might work.
Yeah - but just imagine whole pages of bustie beauties with some varieties thrown in. Not a bad idea.
HMMMM, I'm still thinking. Possibly taking a page, cutting it into sections, taping or gluing with othe sections of different denomimation pages might also work. A strip of blue paper could be used to glue them together. As a rule Whitman Albums have 3 sections per page of most denominations until the larger coins. :thumb:
this sounds like a good idea. i would do: $ = my au 1883 morgan Half = prob. a walker 1/4 = a variety 1 SLQ dime = merc or barber nickel = shield cent = a flying eagle or indian
I couldn't put together a "favorite" coin set. Too many nice designs; I wouldn't be able to make up my mind. What I did do was put together a birthyear set. Ended up with: Dollar - none Half - Walker Quarter - Washington Dime - Mercury Nickel - Jefferson Cent - Wheatie Makes a nice set AND it means something special to me.
Did they really have all those when you were born? Come on now, a Wheat Cent? Don't you mean a Large Cent? Washington Quarter? Wasn't he still President when you were born?
Rats, caught me. I was the model for the 1793 Chain Cent. Why do you think the face looks so ugly And I needed a haircut (which hadn't been invented yet)
For me, it would be this: 1859 Indian Head Cent (or maybe a Flying Liberty...hard call) 1913 Buffalo Nickel (Type 1) Mercury Dime Standing Liberty Quarter (Type 1) Walking Liberty Half Dollar Morgan Dollar
Interesting idea...I think I'd go the birth year route like JustCarl. Drooled so much over a 14 piece birth year Mint Set on EBay, almost had to change my keyboard.
Whitman is usually attemting to recorner the market on coin collecting. I wonder if your idea would be worth submitting to Whitman Publishing for a possible folder or album??????? At times they have rewarded people for suggestions. They once sent me the Dollar Book on Morgans for my suggestions on improving the Red Book. They didn't do what I said but they did appreciate the suggestion.
Sounds like a good idea for a Set! I always thought a set with 1 coin from each U.S denomination (1/2 cent to $100) would look awesome.
