in fact i am thinking of buying 100 pc braille silver commems. proof or unc. but i might pass this one as i said.
This coin is pretty lame in my estimation. I've had them sitting in my cart before and just couldn't bring myself to check out and complete the order. I think, like has been suggested, that the lack of W Eagles has me getting a little impatient as I never usually would even look at commems unless they were too attractive to pass up like the Lincoln or Buffalo.
The Braille may be considered a "niche" coin. The current sales figures don't indicate that it is destined to be a rarity.
the purpose is to get money from the public. so they just propose anything. if you analyze all the commemorative coins. only few were really important.
should i buy it before the price go up?. or should i just pass it. limit - 50 pc. per household family. what you think? also should i buy proof or uncirculated?. any suggestion are welcome.
Always buy unc if you want value, buy proof if you like them and just want to collect and don't care about value. UNCs tend to be more valuable than the proofs....always!
can you show us the easy to open capsule in photo?. are easy to open less air-tite than the other type?. thanks.
Is that true? Are you talking about commemorative's only? what about ASE? 2008 doesn't seem to be holding true for that one. What about the annual quarters?
Usually, in the case of commems, the proof issues tend to be higher in mintage than the uncirc's. ASE's are something else. Bullion production of these coins is much higher than proof issues.
Yes, I am talking mostly about the commemoratives. The instances where the proof is worth more than the uncs I have found that the price difference is usually +/- $5. There are a handful of proof comms that I did find that are worth somewhat more than the uncs, but while on paper this may be the case, on ebay the sales of both types of coins are quite similar. Can't really judge the ASEs, AGEs, APEs, and ABGs yet since only a few years in minting the "collectors" unc. But technically yes, you are correct both the 2008 and 2007 seem to be worth more in the proof than the unc for the ASE and most of the AGEs and APEs and ABEs too. But I think this will all change once the market realizes how much less the uncs were minted than the proofs. Unfortunately, its not just about mintage, because if that were the case the First Spouse coins would be worth tons, but rather it is also about demand. Proof coins seem to be in more demand with collectors than the uncs and from my personal experience always have been which would explain the higher mintages. When it comes to overall mintage of the two types of coins, in all cases that I am aware of, uncs are always behind the proofs. Just my personal opinion. :thumb: Don't know much about the quarter sets, but I believe the proofs typically are worth more than the uncs. And without my books in front of me, I would say that this is where there are less proofs minted than uncs.
When I read this I realized I agreed with it. Markets do tend to bounce to whatever is popular and rare. I would wonder though, in a long term period of several decades would the Unc. Lincolns come to out value the Proofs? And I know I have been told a hundred times that one coin of the same year has no effect on the other of that year. But I can't help but wonder about the demand for the millions of proofs that will not be met this year and the memory of the year with no ASE proofs and the effect that may or may not have on te Comems, even the Brailles that I don't like.
Stupidcoinguy - funny thing was that this very topic came up at the coin show that I was at today. I walked by a table and noticed this customer debating on whether to buy the UNC or the Proof Franklin comm. So I stopped over to offer my advice. I told her why I liked the uncs and the dealer agreed. She understood what I was saying but she liked how the proofs looked and she ended up buying the proof. This is one of those examples where the proof coin was actually worth a few dollars more than the unc, but had a much higher mintage. He was going to charge more for the proof, but then I showed him where the proof was only a few dollars more so he offered both coins at the same price. I stayed after to discuss this topic with the dealer and we both agreed that if you had a choice of buying either a proof or unc, always go with the unc first because the chances are that it will maintain or gain in value over the proof. But as of lately, I am being proved wrong.
