    Hey guys,

My Co-worker has this necklace made out of a Piece of Eight from 1682, he says its "Peru minted" if that means anything.

I have linked two large pictures of the front and back and was hoping someone could give me a value on the coin itself.

    Thank you very much!

I'm no expert on 17th century coinage, but from just looking at it close up it looks to be cast. Seems to be a lot of pitting, or bubbles in the fields, and filling in of areas that shouldn't be filled. Strange.

Wow, well that's interesting. I am sure he won't be excited to hear that.

I would take the piece to the museum of natural history in your location, and ask to have an authenticator look at it.

I could be wrong, Aleforge. I wouldn't write it off as a forgery until someone with more expertise in that field has a chance to chime in. I'm just saying if that was a 19th or 20th century piece with those indicators, I'd wager on it being cast.
