Hey guys, My Co-worker has this necklace made out of a Piece of Eight from 1682, he says its "Peru minted" if that means anything. I have linked two large pictures of the front and back and was hoping someone could give me a value on the coin itself. Thank you very much! http://i40.tinypic.com/27ypb83.jpg http://i40.tinypic.com/m9c3yw.jpg
I'm no expert on 17th century coinage, but from just looking at it close up it looks to be cast. Seems to be a lot of pitting, or bubbles in the fields, and filling in of areas that shouldn't be filled. Strange. Guy~
I would take the piece to the museum of natural history in your location, and ask to have an authenticator look at it.
I could be wrong, Aleforge. I wouldn't write it off as a forgery until someone with more expertise in that field has a chance to chime in. I'm just saying if that was a 19th or 20th century piece with those indicators, I'd wager on it being cast. Guy~
