If I heard that there was a huge drug bust at the mint...

.... It would not surprise me at all. They keep putting off my order(s) over and over again. This unprofessional approach started in late 2008 and has gotten worse since then. Do not tell me it is just difficulty getting silver because there are non-silver orders involved. I would not be surprised to hear of on the job drug use over there.

Patience is a virtue when dealing with the mind. :) But yes anything with silver is being delayed. So say your magic words to help you calm down - busties, seated, mercs, barbers, wheaties - ohmmmmm. Repeat as often as necessary. :)

It may not be drug use, but there is definitely some very bad thing going on over there. I have been dealing with the mint since the early 1980's and never have I seen this sort of thing.

I ordered my silver proof sets well after my lincoln cents but received my proof sets first and my lincoln sets a few days after. I think it may have to do with production from each mint.

no, I don't think so. Speedy type drugs would make them send out more and faster. Others would make them slow down and pay more attention to detail. Neither is happeneng. Maybe its toxic fumes?

It has been going on long before late 2008, and you new collectors have no patience. When I started collecting you ordered your proof sets in February, check or money order which was cashed immediately, no confirmations, and then you sat back and hoped your sets would arrive in time for Christmas. No one got them before late Oct, and sometimes you would have to wait over a year. Oh and the customer could not cancel the order, only the mint could. Longest wait I know of with the collector still getting his order was a little over two years. Longest without getting it was six years from when the order was placed to when the Mint notified him it was sold out and that they would be sending him a refund. . . soon.

I don't mind waiting for stuff from the mint but they should at least try to give you a reasonable status of the state of your order. Their customer service has moved from acceptable to bad in the past few months. It is no longer acceptable for anyone to have customer service at the levels of the 20th century. We've moved to the 21st century about a decade ago. Perhaps they should fire a few folks and hire someone from the private sector to "shake things up"! I can't believe their ineptitude at the moment.

Not to burst your bubble, but don't forget that when the private sector is hired to do something for the government, the job goes to the lowest bidder!

The wait is not really the problem here. The mixed messages are. They tell you it is backordered then change that, then come up with something else. They have never done that sort of thing before.

True, but they usually do a better job. And have you ever bid on a government job? The bids are normally MUCH higher than the same job would be bid if it was being done for the private sector.

I'm amazed that so many well informed individuals do not realize to help our economy, the government has now outsourced our Mint to India. Since they've done so well with the AOL and HP help desk, our goverment realized how much money they could save by such outsourcing agencies.
So if your orders are just a tad late and/or all messed up, think of the monitary savings by utilizing this system.

    Carl,

if your mint was outsourced to india you would know what ur talking about. think ur worst nightmare and multiply it by 100. people pay 100% premium to not have to deal with the indian mint and thats for common coins

Perhaps I'm misinformed, but isn't it already the case that a private sector firm handles their mail order?
