Well, we are about 20% through with sorting the 5,000 wheats from APMEX. ALL have been 40's and 50's except ONE, a 1939, there are three that the date is unreadable. We have found a few toners shown below. I think I remember one 1942S also.

The wheats were $240/5,000, but, I have bought large lots before with much better percentages. I basically bought these for my wife, but, even a newbie knows better than what I have listed. I told her to expect about 60-75% to be 40's and 50's, but that is not turning out to be the case. Even though they say "not guaranteed" this is ridiculous.

The other thing I seem to be finding is alot of cleaned coins, looks like the old viniger/salt/lemon juice soak. Also a few that were baked on top of the soak. Oh, and if you guys are looking for that elusive 1944 or 1944D, you can forget it, I'm pretty sure I have all that were left in circulation.

Okay - note to self; don't buy a bag of wheaties from APMEX. This reason alone is why I have not taken the chance myself.

Sorry for that sad find. Thanks for posting it. How long does it take to look through 5K of cents? I bought a $25 box from bank and haven't touched- too busy

It took us about two person hours to do about 1,000+ coins, and that was just to sort them by decade, not taking any time to look for errors or varieties. Once they are sorted by decade we will sort them by year and mint mark. Then look through them for errors and varieties, I find it easier to remeber one year at a time than 150. I could easliy see this taking about 8 hrs per 1,000.

I've wanted to buy some so bad but am afraid of basically the same thing happening. Sorry for the sad bag.

yeah, I make it a rule never to buy bags of wheaties through the big companies. I can go local and find plenty of wheaties for the taking.
