So I won a coin end of last November. They said before they can ship the coin it might take 4-8 weeks first to get an export licence. Well fast forward a while and on the 13th of Jan they said they finally got the export licence and it would be posted the next day. Well I heard nothing back so I sent another email and then on the 19th of Jan they said there was another delay and they hadn’t got a tracking number yet for me due to a snow storm but they’d send it ASAP. It’s now the 29th of Jan and I sent another email two days ago asking what’s going on and they haven’t replied. It’s been a terrible experience I’ll never participate in their auctions again!
At least you got out the warning . It sucks knowing that you have been taken. I don't know what I would in your position. I'm feel so bad and mad at the same time for you . Cheer up though , live and learn .
When I won coins from Jesus Vico it took many months to arrive. I would wait. They ship from Europe, so considering that, and that we're in a global coronavirus pandemic, I would allow for a few more weeks.
Unrelated, but I got some coins from Canada that arrived faster than things do from within the states.
That's because CA is messed up . I ordered a Sofa that bounced around there more than OZZY OSBOURNE does at night . It was ordered in Nov. and arrive 2 weeks ago.
Last year (2019) I won a coin from an Italian auction house. A German coin. I was informed that I would need an export permit. Thanks to Italian ineptitude, COVID19 and a 4 week Italian vacation season I finally received the coin the middle of September.
There was some discussion recently that Spain is cracking down on export certification for ancient coins.
Sorry to hear about this. I have to admit, though, I was expecting to see that @goldcollector struck again
I very much doubt that you have been taken. Last year in the first wave of COVID it took 6-7 Months to receive my coin. I did have to contact them once in a while but yeah...it took more that half a year to arrive. i have dealt with them for several years. They are usually slow...but with COVID...wait a little while longer.
Vico has been around for a long time and aren't crooks. You're dealing with Spanish government export paper pushers and COVID restrictions killing their economy. It's a headache, for sure, but you're not getting scammed. You're basically doing business with a 3rd world country and have to be flexible in your typical expectations. You will get your coins sometime in February.
I have dealt with Jesus Vico over the years for some nice ancient Spanish coins and they do tend to move slowly but I have always received the coins eventually
I will show a few I have picked up from them. Domitian RIC 145 Domitian RIC 342 Domitian RIC 568 The first one you might find if you look long enough. It is rare but not excessively so. The second one is tougher. However, you might find one that was overlooked because this type looks like 1 000 000 other Domitian denarii. No... I will not tell you why it is special. That is what the search function is for. The last one is more difficult to overlook because it has a different reverse type than more than 99% of the typical Domitian denarii. Unlike most Domitian denarii, this one is very actively sought after. The recent prices (when one is offered) are many times what I paid not long ago. If you do see one that has gone unnoticed ...grab it while you can. This coin is also very special for its absolutely superb portrait. The portraits on the denarii from 84-88 can be spectacular.
What we have learned is there is no predicting. I have received on coin from Europe during the Covid period and it took four days. I have sent coins on two separate occasions a distance of 140 miles to an adjoining state. The first took several weeks and the second has not yet arrived. We got a Christmas card postmarked twice, one over the other showing it took a month to leave the sending post office and two days to get here after it got that second mark. I think they only clean out jams when they absolutely have to.
I think Jesus Vico are pretty reputable -- after all, they were chosen not so many years ago to auction off the portion of the Giovanni Dattari Collection still owned by his family.
