I was diddling around last night looking for commem's when I came upon something that I felt was interesting. Usually immediately after I purchase this type of product from the mint it promptly falls price wise (well below what I've paid for it) in the aftermarket. Now folks, I know this and I fully expect this to happen but sue me, I like the packaging and I'm not collecting for investment purposes but for the sheer joy that I find in collecting things that strike my fancy. So, take a look at this....... http://www.mintproducts.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1127 http://cgi.ebay.com/2007-U-S-MINT-A...hash=item350185177901&_trksid=p3286.m20.l1116 http://cgi.ebay.com/2007-U-S-MINT-A...5|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318|301:1|293:1|294:50 Interesting eh? Comments, observations?
I think it's a great set Ken! I like how it's packaged too, and with the lowest mintage, you never know it could go up in value.
When we say low mintage we are referring to the mintage of the particular product. Overall, mintage figures for proof coins of that year aren't out of line with mintage figures from any of the other years. One could very easily put together their own "Legacy Set" at a substantially lower price then what these guys are offering. Then again, you don't get the fancy packaging.....
Yeah, I was refering to lowest mintage for the actual legacy set, not the coins. I think it's pretty cool though, I had never heard of the legacy set before, how long has it been around for?
a few current auctions on ebay are not a good idea of current prices. one needs to look at recently completed auctiosn for that. Besides, most items in 'stores' on ebay are at rediculous prices. The three recenlty compelted auctiosn for the 2007 set are all in the 150's range. I like the product as well... yeah i know.. same coins in a different package. But i like how they are presented. I have the whole series so far, and they are a pricey set at $135.
I don't quite recall where I read it and danged if I can find it. I think it might have been in numismaster when they were commenting on the big sell off of mint products (by the mint) back in December and how the mint was going to streamline things by not offering so many products. I hope I'm wrong 'cause as I stated earlier I collect this series. :smile
i do think the mint needs to trim the fat and cut some products.. but certainly NOT the 50,000 item product that sells out every time lol im thinking all the president sets ect!!! how many times can they repackage the same coinand sell it at a different price??? But then again, isnt that what they are doing with the legacy collection? Maybe it is, but i do like the ALC what the mint needs to do... a little bit, nothing liek what Canada does.... is mint different coins ... for example... maybe a series of silver dollars featuring the natural wonders of ther US, but in a holographic nature like the Big Ships coins from Canada?? With the number of products offered by alot of the mints from around the world, some of them look more like gimick factories then mints. But alot of them maintain integrity by limiting what they produce, yet when they do produce a coin or series, its true artistry. The US mint is somewhere close to the Mints with integrity, but they could do more with the artistry. I really love some of the coins... and then others completely miss the boat on quality. Take a look at the rose on the Botanical Gardens commem. Simple, yet pleasantly elegant. Then take a look at the reverse of the White House commem. a silly Bust and a Door - whoppie. Sorry if i am getting off topic but i do agree the mint should cut products that dont sell. But if they make money by selling any .. whats their incentive to cut anything???
I also collect the Legecy sets. I have them from 2005 until last year. When I received last years set I wrote a post that I did not feel bad about paying extra for the packaging as the coins in the set were some of the best that I had ever received from the Mint. That may of been luck but I hope they continue the series but I have a bad feeling that it will not be back this year.
lol i bet there are alot of 'closet' mint packaging collectors toss the coins, i just want the package lol just joshing folks
Yep - I had to adjust my storage just to hold those big puppies. And god forbid that they make them the same size and shape each year. Plus they arrive in $20 worth of cardboard box. LOL - but I still get them.
Methinks there's more "modern" types out there than want to be admitted. Alright guys...it's OK to come out of the closet.
