Was marked as XF. Paid XF Bid. The coin has been messed with I believe. It is genuine though. I just dont like the fine lines in the field on the obverse. Its a little easier to see in hand. Overall im happy with the purchase.
It looks nice in my opinion. My only concerns would be the halo effect around lincoln and what could be some pitting around C in the reverse. Still - it is a nice coin.
The mushiness bothers me and what about the couple of die cracks at the base of the bust to the rim? :kewl: I don't know Lincolns so I wouldn't buy a key date like this without asking an expert, so my concerns are not based on expertise. Ribbit
Toad, 14-D is noted for its mushy strike. Also, the die crack is the right die crack for it to be used for authentication.
See! I told ya I don't know these! RLM would be one of the ones I would have asked on it. :thumb: Ribbit
As noted a nice looking coin. Are you shying away from telling us the amount? Looks expensive though. I've got quite a few Lincolns with that wood grain effect. Used to bother me but for some reason I now like that more than without them. And due to that reverse I too would say at least XF or a little better.
I don't think I'd let it go for that low. And as far as "messed with" goes, I think you'd really have to be a discriminating collector to hold that against it. I don't see anything "harsh" whatsoever having happened to that surface. Needless to say, I like it a lot.
It's a great coin. I gues that film, that's greyish- is that what one would call Patina? I have never had that concept very clear in my mind.
It was put out as XF+. I agree on the XF but the plus is a little high to me.. I paid Just a hair of bid. Bid is at 795. I got it for 800. I may hold this until I see a nicer XF or maybe AU just to put myself at ease..
800 whole dollars !!!!!!! holy cow no wonder people get excited when thy get this coin. nice purchase :thumb:
WHAT? Nicer one? I hope your aware of the little over 1 million made and from what I hear they don't make those any more either. Here is something to think about. Well over 300,000,000 people in the USA. Lots more all over the world. Ever wonder how many of those want a coin with a little over 1 million made? Be happy with a great coin.
That "greyish" I imagine is the problem people are seeing in this one. It's most apparent on the left-hand obverse, then around the date and IGOT, but it's really there all over that obverse. That's not "patina," but what happens when you remove dirt or other "soft" foreign material that's been sitting on the coin's surface for years (it's the dull "shadowing" left over from that, evidencing something was there). Quite honestly, that might explain why this key isn't in a slab (that is to say, if it ever at one time was). That doesn't bother me. But can't say what the TPGs would make of that, exactly, either.
