I was at my friendly neighborhood coin dealer yesterday looking through his "junk silver" bin (he charged me 5.75 times FV) for some circulated Franklins to finish a set and I found this coin. I would like your opinions on the date. I have my opinion and I will share it later, but I want to know if I am imagining the date or if you can tell too. The coin is probably a FR2 in grade, but I would like your opinions there too. Even if it isn't worth anything I only paid $2.875 for it Obverse: Reverse: Close-Up of Date: Well, what do you think?
I think you have found a 21!!! But the grading is more in the AG world. Regardless, for a $2.85 investment, its a great deal!!
i must be blind , i looked and looked and looked again i couldnt see no 1921,,i even tried to imagine the number and still came up short ,lol
I agree that it looks like a 1921-P!! not a chance...get PhotoGrade or ANA Grading guide...this would grade AG NET Poor1...the large nick by the B in LIBERTY would lower it I think...and it might only get AG as the 21's were weakly struck. Speedy
I agree looks like a '21 - but the date is not clear enough to say so with certainty. Because of that - it won't make AG. Cool find though
I thought it was a 1921 too, so I'm glad some others think it might be that too! I was thrilled to find a key date (even in horrid condition) for less than $3! mr22601-what we are looking at is the area near the bottom on the Obv that is mostly flat and grey, but with a small trapezoid of darkness in it. On this coin the "19" part of 1921 is completely worn away, but that doesn't matter as all WLH's start with a "19". Now that dark spot looks like it is between the 2 and the 1 of "21". See how the left of the darkness looks like the sloped side of a 2? and how the right side of the darkness is sttrait, as if it was the side of a 1? Anyway, it is WELL worn, but still a cool find. P.S. Speedy, you are right about the ding near the B in Liberty. It isn't particularly deep, but it is filled with dirt. I think I will send it to ANACS, so that I can sell it. I wouldn't want to have a potential buyer go, "It has NO DATE, how can you call it a 21?!" Having it slabbed (even as PO1) should give it some value. I think I will wait until I can find a deal, though, to save some $$$. CJD
If you send it to ANACS I would suggeset sending them on the 5day deal...if you send in 5+ coins it only will cost you $15 per coin + S&H.... Speedy
Huh?...You guys have great eyes. I'm picking up the 19 myself, but having a heck of a hard time making out the ghost of a 21. Nice to find though.
Here is an image that another user on a different forum used to back-up his opinion that it was indeed a 1921. Basically he superimposed a nice 1921 over my coin so that the dates could be easily compared. In light of his pictures, I'm relatively certain that it is a 21P. Does that help?
