My replacement 1881-S Morgan arrived yesterday. The one I had in my collection was a reasonable grade (AU details) but had too much damage. Imaging my collection has shown me some problems I wasn't aware of. While I was at it I did an upgrade too. Old Obverse Old Reverse New Coin And I checked it for PL, but it didn't come close. Still in hand the fields are very nice. I'll probably have to get a PL coin as a reference piece just so I'll know what one should look like.
Nice upgrade. The 1881-S Morgan is one of my all time favorites because it is almost always amazingly struck. You get a true sense of the design's true detail.
