am I just feeling the latest buzz over new coins, or am I thinking straight? I bought 2 rolls of P an D mint 2009 Lincoln Cents to stash away. I figure that Lincolns are always well collected, and these are hard to find in circulation. what do you think?
If that is the case, dutchman, I will be very pleased, but if not, I didn't lose the farm on this purchase
Just went to the bank today and picked up 8 rolls of the new Lincolns. Even though I knew the bank lady very well because she was my half dollar hook up, she would only allow me to buy 8 rolls.
I had ordered 2 sets from the mint. Received them a few days ago. Looked on Ebay and saw the crazy prices that they were going for. I do not collect Lincoln cents so I said what the H*ll and listed them for BIN @ $90 a set. Within 2 hours they were sold. If people want to pay that price why not sell. I figure it will take years or maybe never before these rolls go for that price. Now I will wait for my bank to get them in the Stringer rolls. I really did not have the nerve to ask for more than the $90 a set and belive me I did feel pretty bad about that price but people were paying more.
Good for you! Why not take advantage of the crazy market. If people are willing to pay that much, why should you not take it. Ultimately, the Lincoln rolls from the mint will always carry a premium over Federal wrapped rolls because of the limited amount that were made. At this point, it is not about the coins, but rather the piece of paper that goes around the coins. What was the final number?......33,000 total rolls sold from the mint? I don't know the exact number but it is close. That's not a whole lot if you think about it. I just got 8 rolls of Philly Lincolns yesterday and I don't think those would sell for anything near what you got because they don't have the "official" mint wrapper. Same coins though different wrapper. Crazy, huh? :goofer:
I am getting all i want from my small coin dealer at$3.00 for a roll p & d i have bought 10 rolls, im selling them in my antique booths at 5cents each or 50 cents a set . as long as i make some profit and let other coin collectors enjoy them. I am pleased already have 10 rolls series 2 reserved at the coin shop for the same price. LOOK around for the deals.
Like I said if people are going to pay crazy prices why not sell them. For me also numismatics is a hobby and something to leave to my grandchildern. I hope in years to come they are not mad at me for leaving them the 2009 Lincoln Birth Years sets in a different wrapper than the official Mint wrapper. If I thought that the premium that people were going to pay for the same cents that they can wait and get at their local bank in the near future for .50 a roll I would of ordered 5 sets. I think the mint released 96 thousand sets. Still cannot figure why everyone has to have the new releases as soon as they come out. Just sit back and wait for the mad rush to be over and get what you really want for a fair price. Just waiting to see how the second Lincoln cent release will be as crazy as the first.
Swami Noodle sez: I predict this one may be a bit more so with people rushing to buy the mint rolls as soon as they become available this time. The mint will step up production, and over mint the rolls making them common. If they don't over-mint release #2, they definitely will by release #3.
The only thing is, people will hoard these cents, so no, we will never see them in average circulation like we do other years. I mean, we're already seeing it now. There wasn't a mad rush and $50 rolls of 2008 Lincolns, so why do we think these will be commonplace in the near future? There may be billions minted, but they'll never see the light of day. That will make them worthless, but scarce. Guy~
I have to agree. Westward Journey nickels are a prime example of how the mint did, and does, these things.
