I have acquired a Alderney coin that I can find little or no information on. it is a £10 coin , silver proof in red box , coin in a usual capsule. it has a cert of authenticity , one side has a queen mother with family balcony scene , the other a raphael Maklouf portrait of Queen elizabeth the 2nd and is dated 2000.

the cert says it was made to commemorate the queen mothers centenary year. The cert says I have number 396 and that it one of 1000 made.

If anyone can shed any light on its value, validity etc it would most appreciated .

I can find info on £2 and £5 coins but not £10.

    thanks

thanks for your reply , i tried the link , and as i suspected there is no mention of a £10 coin , certainly no coin around 2000 with the description and portraits i have on my coin. to say the least its a mystery. here hoping someone may be able to shed some light eventually. i will try emailing . i thought about emailing the royal mint as the cert says thats who produced it.

as you can see from my pics this one is dated 2000, believe me i have tried many avenues to try and find other coins from this batch, and to try an ascertain a value.
i have even emailed the alderney coins dept at alderney.gov and i await a reply.

Well, its legal tender for £10 obviously, but I reckon a dealer would pay between £20-30 and sell it for about £75-£85....

I also have a £10 alderney coin year 2000, numbered 0766, and I have not been able to locate any value reference. This doesn't make sense, especially since I purchased the coin directly from the Royal Mint.

2 years later and still no wiser

to those who joined in this thread 2 years ago i was wondering if any of you are any wiser , this coin remains a mystery and i cannot get answers from anywhere. we are really hoping to sell this coin but cant begin to guess a value other than its silver content value.
