So after several problems early on there is a new one. It has been almost a month since I placed my order at the mint for the silver territory quarters and dollar set, both in stock and ready to ship. Looking around on fleabay I see that there are plenty of silver territory quarters available and not only that but people have had theirs long enough to send them out to get slabbed, get them back and put them up on the bay! Since these are readily available I decided to just cancel my order if it hadn't shipped and pick it up at my local dealer the next time I go in. So I call and get a young lady who was very nice, I asked her first about the status of my order, she said it was still being processed, it should go out "soon" and then allow 2-3 weeks for shipping! I asked her who they ship with and she said FEDEX, I told her I didn't know FEDEX had a 2-3 week delivery service, she kind of stumbled around that question. Anyway, a two month or more turn around for coins that have been and are readily available in the secondary market was getting less and less appealing to me. I asked to just cancel my order, when she asked me why I told her that I was going to buy it in the secondary market, because people have had theirs long enough to send them out and get them slabbed I should be able to get one on my own quicker. She said I had to be careful of fakes! I told her I doubt anyone was making counterfeit territory quarters in fake NGC slabs! Only after much typing she asked me if she could put me on hold to see exactly how to cancel the order. When she came back on she said that there was good news that my package was sitting there waiting for FEDEX to pick it up. And since it was already processed for shipping and my card has been charged for the payment they couldn't cancel the order and if I wanted to I should return it when I get it. I told her that was an amazing coincidence that just at the exact moment I asked to cancel the order it happens to get dropped in the bin for shipping, before I asked to cancel it was processing, after I asked it was ready to ship. But I must say, unlike most others I have talked to she was nice, had somewhat of a clue, and at least acted like she gave a hoot. So I had used my debit card and any charges show up on my online statement IMMEDIATELY when a charge is run as a hold or pending. So far no email from the mint with shipping info, (guess fedex was late right?) and no charge on my card today. ANyone want to bet me that today when I call they will tell me it is in "process" and will be shipping sometime "soon" and to allow for 2-3 weeks for delivery? The only thing I am ever going to try to order from the mint in the future would be rare issues like the lincoln 95% copper set, where any inconvenience or problems will be compensated for.
Very typical. They did this to me too. Well, on Easter Sunday I received a ship conf from the mint that they shipped my Lincoln proof out on Sunday. I have the fedex tracking number, but for some reason it is stuck somewhere between there and nowhere. I just got my shipping conf for my FS coin, which should theoretically mean that I get it today if it shipped yesterday. We will see tonight when I get home.
Thats what the girl told me, though little they have told me has been true so far. They use that special fedex delivery that takes 2-3 weeks to get to you.
I placed my order for the 2 lincoln commems. I knew they aere close to selling out as i had waited to long to order. I soon got a post card telling me the coins were on backorder. a few days/week later i get another card telling my 1 coin had been cancelled. A third card told me the second coin was onhold to be shipped - even though the website tells me the entire order was cancelled. Soi buy the coins on the secondary market - no big deal. Then i go and order the new commems, Louis Braille. I order 1 of each proof and unc coins. a day or so ago... i get the card telling me the coins are on backorder... now im just waiting to get the enxt card telling me 1 or more of the coins on order was canclled
god at least i should get a break on my birthday but no the mint and the postal authorities just wont let me live in peace :deepest sigh:
so sure enough the automated phone system say my order is still being processed. So I kick over to the operator who tells me, of course, (no one took my bet) that my order is being processed and should be shipping soon but they don't know when. That the package isn't sitting there waiting on fedex to pick it up that my order is just "in the warehouse" and since it is in the warehouse they cant cancel the order, and my card hasn't been charged. So about par for the course, their operators just make stuff up that isn't true to get people off the phone. Guess I am pretty much hosed, guess I gotta wait another 2-3 weeks to infinity.
I just thought about it. Since the order is past the point of no return, it can't be cancelled that I should just put a freeze on that card and the mint will still send me the stuff because they can't cancel the order right?
Unfortunately, as you probably know, but had not happened to you until now, this is a common situation with the mint. I use the services of my local and trusted dealer. We need to continue writing complaint letters to the Mint Director. Sorry that happened to you.
No it happened to me on my last order, 12 years ago! I figured hey, its been a long time, there is a new director, they have had time to get things right, everything is more computerized now, let's give them another chance. Nope, nothing has changed from what I have seen.
