Nickel was used in the production of armor plating. The planchets for the Netherlands coins were the same size not smaller, and you should make it clear that the planchets for the Netherlands coins were silver not zinc plated steel.
To Condor101 My research shows the Belgium 1944 2 Francs struck on Netherlands 25 cents blanks were zinc coated steel and the Netherlands 1944 25 cents struck at Philadelphia were indeed silver (all 40,000,000 of them) Thanks... Clinker
Thats some neat info there. Will have to check my grandparents coins. We've gone through them to pull out the silver halves and Canada silver, but havent checked what each coin is from all the countries they've lived in.
The first part of the sentence is confusing. How can the Belgium pieces struck on Netherlands blanks be zinc plated steel, if the Netherlands blanks are made of silver in both 1944 and previous years? If they are struck on Netherlands blanks then those coins would be silver as well.
Conder101 Sometimes my research is faulty because The info I relied on is incorrect, which may be the case here. I relied on K- M's "Standard Catalog of World Coins 1901 - 2000." Thanks... Clinker
