I figured this wouldn't grade and bought when I lacked much knowledge of coins. It looked MS 70'd originally and then I put in paper flip x 3-4 months in moderately humid environment 50-60% or so and it started toning green. If anyone thinks this would grade at PCGS (doubtful) or NGC (maybe, but doubtful) let me know.

Addendum: I didn't photo the luster well at all and it actually has very strong with no breaks at all in it. The cheek concerned me as it looked like it was scuffed, as well.

    Boss,

Nice coin! I would say that it would grade at around MS-65RB. IMHO, there is some friction marks on the Obverse and a couple of nicks (dings) on the Reverse along with some rim friction, which would hold it back from grading higher. I see no reason why PCGS or NGC would not grade the coin but it really would not be cost effective to do so!

I figured it wouldn't grade for altered color. Any other opinions. Thanks so far.

if its natural toning they will still grade it. now if it is deemed artificial toning they will probably body bag it

That is at least a 65 RB, but I give on just what the TPG's will and will not grade.

Boss: As I recall you had a 14 S some time ago with similiar look that was BB for altered surfaces. Though if I recall I think that coin had evidence of being tooled on the reverse or had a bunch of litle dig marks where someone had tried to remove a prior problem. I think some of Leeg's Lincoln's have looked a little like this one, so I think I will send in and take a chance. It's worth getting graded due to higher value as a toned coin perhaps if it grades. I am trying to complete a graded set so the value doesn't matter as much to me as much as completing the full set of Lincoln wheats.

USED to be a fantastic looking coin. Obviously my statement would indicate I'm not a toned coin lover though. Regardless, if you sent it in for slabbing it would be interesting to see what a TPGS would do with that coin. Just remember that you will pay almost the same as the coin is worth to find out.
Still, if you have the money, why not try it and let us know.

How did I miss this thread?

Can't tell from your pics. Tell you what, for $6 and shipping you can get a GREAT pic from Todd at blueCC photos ( google him )

I just got off my duff and sent him some of my toners from my safe that have sat around for ever. Worth every " penny ". Just look at some of Charmy's pics......and a whole lot cheaper than a risk at PCGS.

It does look like a nice coin, but to guess originality from your pics is impossible, to me.

I don't think it would slab at either TPG.

Doesn't make it any less pretty though. :)

Thanks guys! I like the info about Todd the photo guy. I assume Jack is telling me to do this so I can enjoy the coin via a nice photo instead of feeling the need to get it graded. I will send in anyway to PCGS, but might be fun to send this and some other nice raw coins to this Todd guy.

There is a thread on the PCGS boards about how tough they are on color these days. Many more coins that deserve it are ending up in the gunuine holder for questionable color .........as per the " experts ".......
