yes BUT isn't that roughly 1/4 of the typical minting? for example: 2008 Denver Philadelphia Total Oklahoma 194,600,000 222,000,000 416,600,000 New Mexico 244,400,000 244,200,000 488,600,000 Arizona 265,000,000 244,600,000 509,600,000 Alaska 254,000,000 251,800,000 505,800,000 Hawaii 263,600,000 254,000,000 517,600,000 Correct me if I am wrong (and I could be lol) But isn't that the lowest combined mintage yet?
I think many people will just hear LOWEST MINTAGE , and there will be a premium. Then again I may be bias, I have ordered a set from the mint .
It's funny, I have never ordered from The US Mint before, and two weeks ago I signed on and ordered the two roll set of PR quarters. They just billed me for it yesterday, so I guess they are on their way. I.feel.lucky
Nice rant! Now considering I started the thread and have SO much respect for modern stuff my point really is in relative numbers if you read my first two posts. I don't know if you deal in these types of coins at your shop but we do where I work. People want them and they really do sell. Working on those standards this one (and those to follow as pointed out by Elaine1970) may be a bit tougher. Does this mean I love them anymore? Nope - I like old stuff but still might salt a roll or two away. I rant on this stuff too but we have to realize that there is a big collector base for this stuff. Heck, I sold four rolls of Log Cabin Lincolns today for $8 each and as I did I let the buyer know that she MAY see them in circulation in droves so don't be mad at us when they hit. We paid a premium to get them to satisfy our customers. We provide people what they are looking for and BTW we also sell MORE of the older stuff.
Actually using the 139,000,000 figure, that means 3,475,000 rolls. I know there are bags and singles, but that's about the same number of Mint sets they made in some years - and we all know what kind of premiums those are commanding after a few decades!
That is exactly why I don't have them... You can tell people not to be mad at you all you want... but when they bring in their 50 complete unc sets to me in 3 years to sell them... because they want to go on a vacation... (which has happened to me more then once already) and I tell them they are just change...and i'm not interested in buying them... feathers are going to be ruffled... especially if I sold them each coin for $.50 or more. So therefore I don't carry them... never did.
Has anyone successfully gotten Puerto Rico quarter rolls from a bank. I keep asking my local branch if they have any, and they don't.
Wise move. Unfortunately I don't have a choice as I don't run the shop. However, over time some of these collectors do start to branch out into more "classic" coins. As for disappointing resale. Seen it many times and I've only been at the shop for a year. Of course I have repossessed in the rent-to-own industry so I guess I'm hardened. Now THAT'S an unhappy customer.
