Have you ever seen a coin grade 1? If it is an 01-S then it is the worst 01-S in the world and according to the heritage archives, they've never sold one graded 1. I looked at the ones graded FR2 and they were several times better looking than this one. What kind of value could be assigned to the coin, honestly a nice FR2 (yes that is an oxymoron) goes for anywhere in bewtween about $1800-$2500 and an AG3 averages about $3700. Would a 1 go for $600-900?? What do you think? Is it real? What's it worth?
I can not tell if it is real or not and certainly can not see the S. And yes I have see PO1 coins before - especially in large cents. Actually - I kind of like the way the coin looks.
Got to give it to that guy though. He did say complete return in 30 days if not satisfied. Also, said the coin is poor. Also, 13 bids so far. Also, mentioned he found it in melt. So with all those sort of honesty things he may be for real.
My question is if he is so sure why doesn't he get it graded himself? You spend $900 for the coin, you pay the shipping, you pay for grading, you pay to ship it back to him when it doesn't check out. You are out the shipping both ways and the cost of grading. he gets coin in P-01 holder for nothing which he can then sell at a premium to someone building a lowest grade registry set. just my thoughts Richard
He says: "You really have to know the positioning of the 1901-S mint-mark to really be able to determine you have one considering the MM's are typically weak to this series " #1: No they are NOT (weak). #2: This ain't it (an '01 S). #3: What he is supposing is an S is in the completely wrong place for an '01S. #4: Winner is guaranteed to get a piece of very expensive silver melt.
I'm glad you guys tend to agree, I couldn't see the S where it should be, nor did I like the placement of the digits on the obv compared to the two known obv diagnostics.
These kind of guys annoy me. They drink from the same trough as the guys who buy "slightly bent" or otherwise screwed-up coins and then turn around and pretend it's a "normal" coin. I also like how he put it in the 2x2. What for? To protect it? From what? Also glad he took the time to add $1200 to the 2x2 - I do that all the time
