No problem Penny Lady, I enjoying hearing others experience and opinions! As I admitted, I have not tried any of these other products. I should get around to experimenting and perhaps analyzing them in the lab, but time is of the essence. I have access to all the chemicals they put into those products as my company makes all kinds of fluids for metal. I've never found a need for their products. How effective do you believe those products to be against verdigris? Do you remove the oil residue left after cleaning with a non-polar solvent like xylenes?
I am so thankful to get everyone's opinion they all mean something to me. I hope to upgrade this whole collection that I recieved, but I want to make sure I keep the Indian Heads and Lincolns as they have a large sentimental value to my wife. I finally finished the set last night with the purchase of a 1871 IHC with guess what a little verdigris, I hope 20 bucks wasn't too much. Talk to you guys later.
BadThad, Sorry it took me so long to get back to you on this - I was at the PCGS Las Vegas show and just returned. I have found CoinCare and Blue Ribbon very effective in losening dirt and verdigris so it can be more easily removed. I use a soft cloth to pat and remove most of the oily residue but some of it does remain on the coin which serves to protect it against any other moisture. However, if I am going to submit a coin to a TPG, I usually make sure there is no oily residue left by using a modern "dissolve" type product (can't recall what it's called) or acetone, or sometimes just soap and water, making sure to completely dry the coin. Any way, I am looking forward to trying your product and will let you know how it works for me.
