I recently came across a blank gold dollar coin. I received it as change from a vending machine. Does anyone know its possible value?
Does it have a rim , or is it straight , are there any machining marks on it , a picture would sure help . rzage
I will be able to upload a picture later this evening. It looks just like one of the G Washington or Sacajawea coins but has no markings. It has a rim, just like the other coins. There is no writing or inscriptions other than the rim. I read somewhere that one sold on ebay for big money. But I have also read that some blank coins are practically worthless, thanks for all the input. I will post a pic late tonight or tomorrow.
I know the picture isnt great....but hopefully it helps. Thanks in advance to anyone who can give me some info.
Looks to be a Type 2 planchet. That's a blank that has a raised edge and is ready to be struck into a coin. Your planchet is collectible. Not sure the value but the larger blank planchets fetch more than the smaller ones.
Thanks, There is not writing or inscription on the edges, or anywhere on the coin. Anyone know it's value?
ARGGHH!! Nice find! Fred weinberg has one for sale right now for $150! http://www.fredweinberg.com/inventory/item.asp?ID=3152
I bought a roll of G Washington dollars when they came out and got the same thing. My only error coin. It has the raised rim but no edge writing or stamping.
