    Good Evening Everyone,

I recently bought a $1000 dollar bill star note and I want to have it graded--one-to make sure it's real and two-just find out what it will grade. I haven't actually put my hands on it yet because I'm overseas and my family bought it on my behalf. They did say it had just a bit of writing on the back, what will that do to it? Where is the best place to have it graded? When I get some better pictures of it I will post them, but this is the picture I have of it so far.

It's a 1934 star with Julian-Morgenthau signatures. It's normal small size note. My Dad put a $100 bill over it and it's the same size.

    Thanks Everyone,

It looks really small...I've never seen one in person, it's listed as a small sized note, but my paper money redbook doesn't say how small. To me, in your pic it looks about the size of monopoly money. I can't read the series date in the picture because it's blurry

    good sleuthing dursin!

With that information I'd have to guess that it is a counterfiet as well... plus the colors look a bit funky.

Thanks for that info Dursin, looks like the store that sold it to my Dad has some explaining to do. Any advice?

Tell your dad not to shop there any more... haha!

    kidding!!

That's a toughie... It really depends on if this was sold as an honest mistake or intentionally... What did he pay for it out of curiosity?

If the dealer is in the ANA, there are some actions that can be taken. I would talk to the owner first and see if you can get a refund if you believe it to be a fake.

That note was part of the Juipter Collection in last years Auction...I still have the catalogs on it and the collection!
The note being held in the hands of whom ever has multiple center folds as well...it is a obvious fake....(nice catch dursin)

Yes, the fact that it was part of the Jupiter Collection is noted on the PMG holder. Couldn't upload this at work (they block Photobucket too), but here it is:

There's absolutely no reason for that note to be removed from the holder and no way on earth someone would have written on the back. Just out of curiosity, what did the dealer sell the alleged 'fake' for?

Those actions could involve contacting the Secret Service. That threat alone should get their attention if it turns out to be a fake.

i was thinking it was to small also. i would have your father go back tomorrow and demand his money or he will be contacting the authorities. counterfeiting is major. you have a felony going on there.:eek:

See.. i told you in your introduction thread that everyone over hear would love to see the note!! look at all the comments.

If the note was purchased at the price the real note should cost... then i would certainly seek help with some authorities.

On second thought, everyone would probably be better off if you contacted the ANA. It would help stop things like this from happening to others. (Unless it was knowingly bought as a fake.) If you return it, he'll just sell it to someone else.

I bet some of the grading companies out there would grade it for you...as authentic lol! that's one option....:S

(Just kidding, don't do that, that would be bad)

Ok.... I am going to stick my neck out here for a moment!

While it is possible that the OP has good intentions, he does only have 4 post's! Not to say that 4 post's mean that he is not legit by any means at all.
    What I am saying is that 2 things are possible;

#1. The OP is playing a practicle joke in which the repercusuions of this joke could draw unwanted attention from Gov. Officials.

#2. For a family member to go out and buy a $1000 note on a whim as a gift is pretty unusual to say the least! While it is possible, I highly suspect it.
I recently bought my 1st $1000 note after 4 years of collecting at close to
4K, a note like the one shown from the Jupiter Collection is indeed a rare note and I doubt any Dealer would have a note of this magnitude laying about for some one to walk in off the street and buy! Also, I doubt any dealer with a knowledge of Paper Money would take this note in hand and simply just look at the paper and say no way!
Furthermore, in my humble opinion, no Dealer in their right mind would sell a note that is so easily traceable as a FAKE note!

That leaves me very suspicious about the OP and the people who printed up this note! There could be very serious legal manifestations surrounding this and if I knew who did this, I would say to them...you better burn that fake note if you know whats good for you....much less taking it back to a shop where I doubt it did originate from!

That said, I will go on record as saying this could be the truth! However, it seems unlikely that this is. I could end up eating these words, but I do not think so!

Thanks for all the info everyone. I want to put away some of the suspicions that you might have of me. I have integrity above all, it is in my core values (integrity first). My family didn't buy it on a whim, I have been wanting a $1000 bill for a long time and they found one for me and I paid for it through them, so it wasn't a gift. The shop they bought it at isn't a coin shop, they just happened across it and called me. The coin prices book I have has it listed at $3000 in fine condition so that's what I was basing my price up against not Gem U 66 like what I know now is the original. My Dad is taking it back today and hopefully I get my money back, but that still leaves me with the question are these guys really selling it as authenic or are they part a bigger picture. Once I get my money back I think I'm still going to try to alert authorities so these guys don't sell it to someone else. So the bit about burning it, I'm not going to burn it because I would be out of money-besides I did look up counterfiet notes and they are not necessarry illegal to possess just to sell which I hope this note never gets sold again.

I want to thank Dursin personnally because he did me a huge favor by showing me the site for the real one and keeping me from not sending it in to be graded. That's why I came to the experts on this forum. Fingers crossed these guys are not running a scam and I get my money back. I will keep you posted-an expensive lesson learned no more side shops for expensive hobbies.

I wish you luck in getting your money back. Have you father talk to the pilice BEFORE going back. If possible, bring the police with you to the shop.

This note for $3,000 was not sold as a replica or anything else. What was done was done with the intention of defrauding a potential buyer. Get the police involoved!

    Dixieaf.....

By your user name I take it you are in the Air Force?

I am a former Marine....please understand that I am not sending a personal attack upon you at all! If indeed this is an innocent occurence, you (your family) have been put into a huge potential for counterfieting currency.

Much less Rare collectable note at that!
As Daggarjon mentioned...have your Dad call the police, FBI or whom ever and document everything!!!

Again..I hope you harbor no ill feeling for my post...yes it was rather blunt and to the point, but that is how I am when a serious matter is at hand.
You have not only established a Fake, but published it across the entire World wide web...with your name on it.
** One more thing...if the actual new owner of this note were to see this post or even hear about it, I would bet you my best note in the collection , he would report it!**

Read read and read before you get into anything you have little or no knowledge about!

I hope this all works out for you, I really do!

    Regards,

    RickieB
