I just recieved in todays mail an 1890o Morgan dollar. To say the least, I am thrilled! I paid 34.50 plus free ship. This coin is blast white with an excellent strike, no bag marks at all and looks to be at least an MS63 if not better. it was supposedly from an estate but I think I did quite well as it currently lists at $115.00 i 63. I'm wondering if this would be worth having pro graded. I've made my first attempt to upload a photo but if it does not come up, my apologies.

I tried the uploading feature but apparently they did not come through. I'm sorry, but I need a short tutorial on how to do that here. I know that time is precious to everyone but if anyone has the time I would be deeply indebted and grateful.

under coin chat, the first thread you see that says "sticky" next to it, will help you out a lot.

And I see why, it's showing up as a tiff not a jpeg-grrrrrrr.

What are you doing to upload it? Are you putting it as an attachment or a link in image tags?

EDIT didn't see your post about the JPEG

I just got a trial image converter so I'm making another attempt as a test run. I may have to rephotograph (scan) the images again at a higher resolution and post again in the converted image as I cannot find any way to set my scanner to image anything but tiffs. here goes and thanks for your patience. Once I get this right I promise I will not bother you great people anymore.

Cant tell from the scans but how is the luster on the coin? It looks like it has a little wear, or maybe it's just a very weak strike. I don't have my morgan book with me right now, so I'm not sure how good the strike was on the 90' O.

Unfortunately from the pictures I would have to say that the coin posted is not uncirculated. The coin has light wear on the hair on the obverse, and you can see some changes in the surfaces color on the interior fields of the reverse as well as on the cheek on the obverse. Both things (from the pictures at least) would make me think that it is not uncirculated.

New Orleans Morgans were typically weakly struck, but I think on this coin it might be a combination of a poor strike and some light wear. I'd call it an AU.

I would say Au also, my guess would be a 55

Nice purchase for a pretty coin.

Definitely circulated, the obverse shows wear, and if it's "blast white" (which it doesn't appear to be from your pictures) it has most likely been dipped or cleaned.

As far as an exact grade, I would need better pictures.

Like Ruben said, it's a great coin no matter what.

Thanks everyone for the replys. I scanned the coin thru a flip so the lustre did not show as it does in hand. I was hesitant to put the coin directly on the scanner bed as to avoid damage. I'm new to collecting Morgans as I could not afford them growing up but it still was not a bad buy at $34.00. I will need to study up on Morgans some more before I buy any of the harder dates. Thanks again.
