I am reading all I can trying to learn about paper :rolling: . I bought this $1 yesterday for $36 (don't have it yet) now the more I read the more I see wrong with it. I would appreciate your opinions and your expertise in grading this note.
i might go with a 62/63. the margains are too far out of whack for a higher grade IMHO. I dont see any obvious folds, but i do seem some slight smudging and some spots. The corners like nice and charp, so the biggest drawback that i notice is the margains.
Hard to tell from an image, but what do you see wrong with it? I'm getting to the point where I'm finding having 10 different grades for an uncirculated note to be quite ridiculous so I'm just going to call that one a Choice Uncirculated. That would be using an Unc, ChCU and Gem CU scale.
The left edge on the face of the bill does not look straight near the top and also the serial # and seal are quite visable on the reverse.
Ah...see that now that you've pointed it out. Strange that it only looks a little off at the top like that. Don't think the serial and seal showing through would effect the grade too much, in fact some (not me though) would call that nice embossing.
My thoughts on the note are that while the paper cut looks uneven on the upper left and the reverse is askew somewhat, this takes the grade down to CHCU......also a light smudges and handling near the top could bring it down to the high end AU grade....the $36 price paid screams AU at me as well!! So from what I see..I will call it a High Au note. Scans can and do hide some minor distractions... I agree with dursin from a different post..the range of grades is getting annoying!! Nice note!! And here i thought i was being harsh.. RickieB grades it a high AU Grading is very subjective to say the least. As far as the multitude of grades, they are there becuase the hobby, in general, wanted them.
LOL...after what I have just seen on that 34D star...well once bitten we tend to stay back a little.....I edited my original post from high AU to CU but after looking trally close I went with AU58..... These are the things that make grading so subjective!! A CHCU note form that series 1928A sells for $110-$120....the seller must have known that? If not and it truly is graded at a CHCU then you got one heck of a deal..:thumb: :thumb: RickieB
