I went to a local coin shop and picked a few nice coins. Two cent piece. This grades an XF40 or XF45. The "E" in "WE" is less evident due to a weaker strike, and a touch of wear. The price I got it for is amazing!!! A whole $12 And these 3 wheats! The 1941 was $2, and the 1954-S and 1956 were $0.40 a piece. The '41 is an MS65 in my opinion, and the other two are around MS64, maybe a 65. 1941 1954-S 1956 Let me know what you think. I did pretty good on the two cent piece I believe
Nice batch of coins. In my opinion I would say the two cent piece is VF30. Just because the we looks weak for xf. But you have it in hand so it could be stronger in hand than in the picture. Love the wheaties - they all look nice.
Yeah, in hand the details are so sharp and clear, and the "WE" is clearly there, just a little worn. The camera doesn't show its full detail.
Numismedia list an XF40 for $48! I'm sure this would fetch $30-$35+ dollars raw. I'm holding onto it though, I've been looking for a nice two cent piece for a while
I've found that a weak "WE" on a 2-cent piece doesn't necessarily take it down to a VF. It still can be XF. That's the problem with keying in on just one particular element. It can be thought as a lower grade than the rest of the coin would indicate. Same thing occurs with Buffalo nickels. People key in on the horn and don't take into account the rest of the coin. BTW, nice group of coins.
I've seen PCGS grade two cents with hardly any WE an XF45, and one with WE a VF30. I agree, it's a little tougher to grade.
