Ok, I am looking for the group's general opinion about something. A few years ago I bought an 82CC, 83CC and 84CC black box Morgans to crack out and put them in my book, but when I actually got the sets in hand, I just couldn't bring myself to ruining these nice sets. Now after nearly two years of staring at them, its time to do something with them. Either I need to crack them out and put the coins in my book or trade them for nice unc examples so I could put those in my book. Do you think that I could sell them for more in the black box and then buy nice unc examples of each for a few dollars less??? Thoughts and opinions.
I personally think you should ship them to me I won't get bored staring at them! haha j/k. If you don't want to display them how they are right now, trade them in. Someone will hopefully come along with a newfound appreciation for the set and display them for a while, and the cycle continues. There are plenty out there individually to put in your collection. Just my thoughts! P.S. (I'll P.M. you with my address so you can ship them out tomorrow! lol again j/k)
:mouth: How about a contest? :thumb: Maybe snap some photos of them in the boxes and hang on to the photos for authentication reasons, if needed. That way you also have pics you can post online with them in the boxes. Break them out, put them in. Save the boxes. Or just leave the holes empty and leave them in. There's no shame in this.
Now THAT'S an idea! How about a contest with only one participant....me! Just draw my name out of a hat. It could be a tax deduction as a charitable contribution. You never know!
shameful u wont give ur best friend any but u will crack them out. horrendous :hammer: buying and selling is a bad idea no need to sell them just buy mor e
Maybe I can create a YouTube video on how to crack out a black box Morgan! j/k I haven't been looking in a while, but what do you think those CC's would cost me to buy them raw? Thats the 82,83,and84. I expect somewhere between $150-200. And Vess, a Morgan may be in future contest.... but I don't think the CC's will be found that day.
you should be able to trade for equivilent example out of the boxes, but that seems like more effort than it is worth. Those 3 dates are the super common ones and therefore I recommend just cracking them out. If you change your mind later you should be able to replace them for under $200 each. The GSA stsus of them just doesn't add much to their value since they are so common.
That is exactly what I was thinking. I was at a coin auction today and they sold the 82CC, 83CC and 84CC GSA sets for $200 each. When I bought them a few years ago, I bought them with the plan of cracking them out, but I just felt guilty destroying a nice piece of history. But you make a good point Cave Troll that these are very common and can be replaced at a reasonble cost, relatively speaking. And Raider34, that is a good eye! Yes the 84CC is gorgeous. Very few facial contact marks. A very clean coin.
