Just learned new terminology today. Planchet, when used in refrence to paper money refers to a small colored disc embedded in the paper used as an anti-counterfeiting device. I think that is these.
ok TheNoost, where on earth did you find this out since i had never heard of it myself, i tried to find info about searching the internet - i came up empty. Not that i am doubting you! There are alot of security features added all around the world, and i certainly dont know them all But since this is new to me, i would like to read more about it
He learned it on the Collectors Universe Paper Money Discussion Board. Planchets were a comon security feature from about 1930-1980. They are small, round pieces of paper embedded within the paper the note is printed on. They were commonly used by American Bank Note and other printers. They also appear on US MPC. They were used on many Cinese notes from the 1930-40s. These notes have been copied in China during the last 5-6 years and they have hit the market. There is one Ebay seller (Toby's auction store) that sells the copies. If you look closely at the planchets on these notes, you can see they are printed on and not part of the paper.
so it is pieces of paper, not metal? and they are placed randomly on the note, kind of like the multicolored fibers on US notes? it kind of cool ive never even seen these, unless i have and did exactly what i did when TheNoost first posted these notes in another thread, and thought it was dirt or something.
