I'm sorry, Ben, but I don't care for the coin as a work of medallic art. To fill up almost the entire field with sails is boring to me. I'm not even sure it's art. Of course all coins of the British Commonwealth have been damaged for decades by the requirement of having Liz's mug on the obverse.

But Ben, if you like it, that's all that matters.

Gunsmoke, not every British Commonwealth country has the portrait of the reigning British monarch on their coins. The current portrait on the Canadian coins looks very terrible,in my view.

Canada is a very loyal British Commonwealth member state,& the monarchy is an essential part of the Canadian identity in the same way that it is part of the New Zealand identity.

Thanks for your take on the coins. I respect your opinion and will continue to collect in the ways which make my collection unique.

    Take Care

    Hi, Ben. : )

I like these coins, especially the first, in the OP, with sailing ship,

and the last, with the lightning in the background. : )

Agreed. The epitome of gimmicky and gaudy.

I'm not slammin' the coin, but it's just not "me".

I much prefer the subtlety of original surfaces on 200 year old silver and copper. Takes a while to learn that; still learning !

To each their own. I can certainly see why some people like it. Enjoy !
