I believe this coin is from Thailand from the feel and script, but I don't have my resources with me.

It looks like the "youth's head" design, which appeared on several denominations of tin coins dated BE2489 (1946), but actually minted over a period of several years.

I have a lot of trouble identifying the Thai characters for value, but the chest medals suggest that this is Y#71 (50 satang - 1/2 baht), in which case it is about 24mm wide. Knowing the correct size would make it much easier to choose between Y#71 and Y#64 (5 satang), Y#69 (10 satang), or Y#70 (25 satang - 1/4 baht).

You might also try a library for a copy of the Standard Catalog of World Coins for pictures, values and lots more interesting info.

    Libraries can be great...

check out your local library or Amazon for this book. Libraries can be amazing places.

The Jewish people would never allow that back on one of their coins. It gives me the willies.

Why? What's your problem with the motif?

The Garuda motif is a very common motif in both Thai & Indonesian culture.Garuda is also the name of Indonesia's national airline.I don't know what their safety record is like.
