Anyone know a good shop around Sacramento?

I just want to pick up some supplies, browse stock, and maybe get an opinion on a couple of coins.

A lot of these places seem to keep pretty modest hours, so it makes it tough to just drive around based upon addresses in the yellow pages.

Anyone happen to know of a good shop in the area?

Well welcome to the area. Be glad you're in Auburn and not the Sac metro area.

 

The only coin store I've been to in this area is the Rocklin coin shop on Granite Dr. I've been there a few times and bought some supplies but decided not to go back there when the owner wanted $18 for a 1961 proof set. He was generally unfriendly and even said he deals in high end stuff. Talking to him was like pulling teeth. He didn't seem to have any interest in getting new customers.

There's a coin show on the 17th & 18th at the Red Lion Hotel on Arden way. I usually buy my supplies at shows or on ebay. Wolves_stamps often sells coin supplies with no S & H fees.

Thanks for the tip--that's exactly the kind of thing I want to avoid.

The folks on this site are really cool, but I've found that a lot of the people who run small shops for collectibles can be really irascible by nature. It used to drive me completely nuts when I was interested in sports cards. I was always like, if you hate children that much, find a new line of work.

I'm going to be at that Red Lion show...hopefully most of the coin shops in the area will have booths of some sort and I can see who's friendly. But I've never been to a show before so I wasn't sure what to expect.

 

Usually, the folks at coin shows are very friendly. They are in competition with 45 other dealers right there. You should have no problems checking out countless coins and getting opinions on your stuff. Plus there's always the couple of vendors with supplies. I usually go to this show and one other in the area each year. Sometimes only to look and sometimes to buy. I'll probably go this year to look.
